THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY Local Title: PARTS ASSISTANT State Title: Parts Employee JOB DESCRIPTION JOB GOAL: To provide specialized work in the operation of an automotive parts room. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years' experience in issuing a variety of automotive store items and keeping store's records involving materials typical of the area of assignment. Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL); Class B with passenger endorsement within twelve (12) months of employment. Computer skills required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of store-keeping methods and procedures and of records used in the receipt, storage and issuance of diversified goods. Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods. Knowledge of automotive, truck and school bus parts. Ability to recognize parts by sight, by technical name, by mechanic's description and the relation of one part to another in their general function. Ability to determine the quantity and quality of goods received in relation to prescribed specifications. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write procedures and reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to identify a particular part by group, part number and name through current technology. Ability to do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to work with fractions and percentages. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies. Ability to complete various reports and maintain appropriate records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. REPORTS TO: Parts Manager SUPERVISES: N/A PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Receive, store and issue stock, and maintain inventory control and other records in the automotive parts room. Inspect quantity and quality of goods received for general conformity to prescribed specifications. Accept or reject goods as indicated. Sign receipt for proper delivery of goods. Develop efficient storage methods including the allocation of proper bins or other storage spaces. Make purchases from specified sources when authorized. Pick up parts when necessary. Keep parts room clean and in good maintenance. Cover Lead Mechanic shift. Generate daily reports for Manager's review. Complete all shipping memorandums for next day deliveries. Review work order backlog. Update monthly fuel calendar. Be available for road calls, if necessary. Operate vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. Perform duties with awareness of all department work rules, District requirements and School Board policies. Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information. Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Manager/Supervisor in a timely manner. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends. Travel outside of Manatee County as required in the performance of duties. Perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy work. Requires lifting, holding, carrying, sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The worker is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. Vehicle and shop safety is the highest priority. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
