Substation Protection and Controls Engineer Norcross, GAFull job descriptionWe are seeking a substation engineer to join our substation engineering team in our Atlanta headquarters and serve our investor-owned utility and Industrial clients. The Substation Protection & Controls Engineer will be responsible for controls design of electrical substations.We look for team players who are eager to learn, grow and excel. We are a team that focuses on providing excellent customer service with a "can do" attitude and thrives on finding innovative ways to work both safer and more efficient.ResponsibilitiesProtection & Control designs for electrical substations, both new construction and upgrades/retrofitsPrepare and review documents and drawings. These include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection and control schematic development, wiring diagrams, panel elevations, SCADA, communications, AC & DC diagrams & calculations, equipment specifications and Bill of Materials.Preparing bid, construction, and as-built documentsPerform job cost estimatesDevelop proposals (scope of work, estimate, etc.)Field visits including pre-engineering, pre-construction and post-construction inspectionsWorking knowledge of applicable codes and standards (i.e. NEC, NESC, IEEE)Develop proficiency with the applications and tools necessary to complete projects requested by clientsLead QA/QC process and sign off on engineering documentsStay informed of client, industry, and company news and developmentsLearn and remain aware of the services and skills offered by all departments within the companyAlign company capabilities with the needs of existing and potential clients; find opportunities to offer additional relevant servicesSkills and QualificationsA BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university5+ years of experience in substation protection & controls design5+ years of experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD ElectricalRegistered Professional Engineer5+ years of engineering experience working with Southern Company Services (a plus)Proficiency with Microsoft Office (required), and Office 365 and SharePoint (preferred)Ability to communicate effectively and honestly, both written and verbal, to clients and colleaguesThe ability and willingness to travel approximately 15% annuallyThe ability and willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlinesAttention to detailAbility to troubleshoot and solve problemsStrong organizational skillsIntegrity - the P&D way of doing business and as a professional engineerKnowledge - utility systems, power line design, leadershipService-oriented attitudeInitiative, self-sufficiency, and a strong desire to learn and train othersAttention to safety and the welfare of co-workers and clientsWe offer competitive compensation, a comprehensive benefits package, and the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to a vibrant culture that stands the test of time.Benefits401(k)401(k) matchingDental insuranceEmployee assistance programFlexible scheduleFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offProfessional development assistanceVision insuranceBonus opportunities
