Job Details Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,470 - $1,550 Location: Harvey, IL (60426) - south of Chicago; Chicago-area travel nursing opportunity Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Date: April 13, 2026 Shift: Day shifts, 3 x 12-hour (06:45 - 19:15) Hours per Week: 36 Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend Floating Requirement: Yes Charting: Epic (electronic health record) Qualifications / Job Requirements Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a behavioral health, psychiatric, or mental health inpatient setting Active Illinois RN license (must be in hand at time of application) - Illinois RN / nursing license required BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred Experience with Epic charting system required Ability to float to other units as needed First-time travel nurses and local RNs accepted Maximum 7 days of requested time off during contract Key Responsibilities Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to adults in an inpatient psychiatric/behavioral health unit focused on stabilization and safety Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments, develop nursing care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes Care for patients with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, PTSD, substance-related disorders, and psychosis Administer psychotropic medications (antianxiety, antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers) and monitor therapeutic response and side effects Perform basic medical nursing tasks as indicated: wound care, dressing changes, IV starts and maintenance, blood glucose monitoring, and lab value interpretation Implement behavior management techniques, crisis intervention, and safe physical hold protocols when necessary Provide psychoeducation and coping strategy training to patients and families Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including social work, pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and rapid response teams Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic to ensure continuity of care This Psychiatric RN travel nursing job is a great opportunity for mental health nurses looking for Chicago-area travel nursing, behavioral health RN roles, or inpatient psychiatric nurse positions.
