They monitor the volume and quality of output and adjust tasks, timing, equipment set-up, or inputs so that production specifications are met, and resources are used efficiently. They supervise staff to ensure that all production tasks are performed and that all machines and equipment operated in a safe manner. They train new workers in the organization's operating procedures and standards. The Supervisor, Tank and Welding prepares production reports so that performance problems can be identified and resolved. They provide supervision to the heavy wall and light wall tank departments on first shift. Measures of success: % Production Schedule AttainmentInventory Accuracy Dollars and UnitsEnsure Safety Measurements and Policies are followedConsistently meets all project and task deadlines as set by direct manager ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervises and manages heavy wall and light wall tank departments on first shiftSupervises production floor employees, including tracking and approving employee hours worked, overtime, vacation days, etc.Ensures that employees are welding and fabricating within the proper American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) specifications for the jobConducts routine audits for all critical welding parametersEnsures employees are accurately transacting scrap and material within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systemReviews engineering drawings and design packages for welding and ability, correcting mistakes as needed and providing feedback to Engineering department.Ensures Light Wall and Heavy Wall Lines meet or exceed monthly output and revenue targets.Designs complex welding fixtures and resolves significant fabrication issues as the onsite welding and fabrication expertDevelops and reviews capacity of workforce distributionMoves people to maximize performanceMoves people to assist in the completion of expedited ordersEnsures employees are cross-trained and welding within only their qualified welding proceduresMoves people and schedules overtime to cover shortages in workforceDemonstrates proper ways to weld and fabricate to ASME code Observes production working practices and standards to ensure complianceWorks with Tank Buyer Planner(s) on weekly production requirements and capabilitiesCreates production goals and ensures goals are met on-time. Communicates goals to production floor via flowcharts and personnel direction.Works with Manager of Operations and Manufacturing Engineers to achieve desired results of business planSelects areas that require 5S and implements changesMakes engineering change suggestions to improve product cost and ease of fabrication/welding Works with vendors to select proper welding and fabrication equipment and consumables and evaluates different manufacturers for suitability to Taco's needsUses hands-on working practices on all welding and fabrication equipmentDevelops and trains new hiresImplements process improvement techniques to enhance product flow Resolves manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum cost and prevent delaysEnsures that all equipment is in safe working orderSearches for easier and expedited manufacturing practicesFixes machines when necessary to ensure production goals will be met or seeks out alternate methodsOversees hoist and forklift inspections to adhere to proper operations and safety measures Maintains a safe work environment and ensures that all employees follow safety rules and wear personal protective equipmentDevelops relationships and collaborates with other functional areas (i.e., Engineering, Human Resources, Maintenance, Facilities, etc.) as a subject matter expert in welding and tank fabrication People Management Evaluates team members to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; collaborate on development actions and ensure resources necessary to complete actions Cascades relevant and appropriate information about the company and department effectively and in a timely mannerCoaches and mentors for skill and knowledge developmentExecutes necessary responsibilities of team during absences or alternate engagementEnsures team adheres to company policies, practices, and department standardsAssigns actions and ensure completionReviews work quality and provides feedback and guidance to teamCross-trains employees in critical jobs to avoid inefficiencies within departmentUpskills novice welders through mentoring, training, cross-training, and coaching QualificationsRequired: Associate Degree in Manufacturing Technology or similar field of study; significant applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of degree 5+ years of experience in ASME Section VIII pressure vessel welding and fabrication 5+ years of experience in supervising or leading in a heavy metal fabrication environmentFamiliar with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and WordAdvanced proficiency in welding processes including Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex welding and fabrication drawings in accordance with ASME requirements Demonstration of progressive rolesDemonstration of mechanical hands-on aptitude Exceptional knowledge of tank fabrication and assembly Strong written and verbal communication skillsExceptional ability to pivot between tasks and needs as well as a strong ability to influence a team of direct reportsTravel Requirements: Minimal travel required up to 1-2 times per year; determined on an as-needed basis Preferred: American Welding Society (AWS) certification OSHA 30-hour CertificateExperience with Lean Manufacturing principles Work EnvironmentThis position works primarily on a production floor where large equipment and noise are prevalent as well as in an office environment using computers and technology. Verbal and auditory capability are required, and safety gear is required in production areas. This is an onsite position that reports to office/facility 5-6 days per week based on business need.
