Safety Engineer/Designer (Calculation Engineer) - Southfield, Michigan Six-month contract position - Standard Day Shift position (40+ hours per week) HYBRID POSITION - 4 days in office, 1 day remote Pay Rate: up to $35.00 per hour (based on proven work history) Safety Engineer/Designer (Calculation Engineer) reports to RAMS Manager (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) Function: Engineering and Research & Development Summary of the Safety Engineer/Designer (Calculation Engineer): Safety Engineer plays a vital role in complex engineering projects. Core responsibility for supporting Project Team and Site on the lines risk analysis assessment. Duties and Responsibilities of the the Safety Engineer/Designer (Calculation Engineer): These are position essential duties and are not an all-inclusive list: Achievement of timing, quality, and cost targets Assure the use of company standards (product, processes, norms) Develop the risk analysis activity for tooling, robotic cells and automated systems, in order to assure the compliance to all the safety norms Conduct risk assessments (e.g. PFMEA, Ergonomic Analysis, Hazard Assessment) for new or modified tooling Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as OSHA, ANSI, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, and local regulations Performing Safety Analysis during all project phases, participate in tooling design reviews giving continuous feedbacks to Project Team Validate guarding, interlocks, lockout points, pinch-point protection, emergency stop, etc. On site checks. In order to verify the correct installation and commissioning vs. the safety requirements Verifies the contents of technical file and develops the CE document certification Investigating tooling-related incidents, near-misses, and failures Lead corrective actions and develop long-term safety improvements Deliver training to operators, maintenance technicians, and engineers on proper tooling use Required Knowledge and Skills of the Safety Engineer/Designer (Calculation Engineer): Ability to work independently and within teams Ability to travel domestically (5-20%) and internationally, as project needs may require for technical support Safety and risk assessment analysis Safety functional performance level calculation Safety standards and norms General-purpose IT tools Technical reports creation Functional safety management according to ISO26262/ISO13849/IEC52061 Hazard and risk analyses creation Functional and technical safety concepts planning Support in creating safety analyses Define safety devices list Provide Support on calculation of safety functions Performance Level (PL) Moderation and participation at technical reviews Safety proof generation Close cooperation with the project manager, developers, and customers Requirements on machineries maintenance activities Requirements on manual instruction structure & developments Knowledge and experience of declaration of conformity Behavioral Competencies: Embrace and cherish competition; reach for 'best in class' Drive for discontinuity Deliver as a way of life Keep things simple Act with integrity and honesty Drive collaboration through respect and openness Coach, empower, and develop others Demonstrate humility Hold yourself and others accountable Have the courage to make tough calls Educational Requirements of the Safety Engineer/Designer (Calculation Engineer): Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field Reading comprehension of technical documents Minimum three years of work experience in automotive development (Hardware or Software), manufacturing, or industrial safety engineering A successful candidate will be subject to a background check and must receive satisfactory results of the same, as a condition of joining the team.
