Reporting to the President, the VP of HR serves as a core member of the University's executive leadership team, providing vision, strategy, and oversight of all aspects of human capital management.This role is responsible for aligning HR strategy with the University's mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability goals. The Vice President leads efforts to cultivate a high-performing, inclusive, and values-driven workplace through initiatives spanning talent acquisition, employee engagement, labor relations, total rewards, organizational development, compliance, and workforce planning.In close collaboration with the President, senior leadership, and campus stakeholders, this position drives the design and implementation of equitable policies, effective structures, and systems that support institutional resilience, accountability, and community well-being.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership & Institutional AlignmentDevelop and execute a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with the University's mission and strategic priorities.Advise and partner with the President's Council and senior leadership to advance organizational goals, inclusive practices, and a high-performance culture.Lead succession planning, talent development, and leadership capacity-building to ensure long-term institutional sustainability.Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making.Team Leadership & DevelopmentProvide direct leadership and support to the Human Resources team, setting clear expectations, priorities, and performance goals aligned with the strategic direction of the institution.Assess individual and team capabilities, provide coaching and mentorship, and create professional development opportunities to strengthen technical, operational, and leadership capacity.Promote accountability, collaboration, and internal mobility within the department.Ensure alignment, communication, and consistent execution of HR initiatives across the University.Total Rewards Strategy & DesignPartner with the CFO to design, implement, and sustain a competitive total rewards strategy encompassing compensation, benefits, retirement, employee recognition, and engagement programs that support both fiscal responsibility and talent retention.Collaborate with the University Leadership Team to maintain and evolve the University's compensation philosophy and strategy, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, market trends, and equity considerations.Oversee the ongoing design, evaluation, and administration of compensation programs, including base pay, variable pay, merit increases, market benchmarking, and annual planning-driving continuous improvement, transparency, and equity.Lead efforts to modernize total rewards systems and policies, integrating data analysis and employee feedback to ensure relevance, affordability, and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape.Talent Management and AcquisitionLead the design and execution of a comprehensive human capital strategy that supports institutional priorities. Key areas include workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, talent development, employee engagement, employer branding, total rewards, and performance management.Advance inclusive hiring and retention practices across the institution, with a focus on identifying and removing systemic barriers to equity in candidate attraction, selection, and internal mobility.Oversee efforts to assess and meet employee professional development needs, aligning learning opportunities with institutional competencies, mission, and succession planning goals.Guide the evolution of talent systems and practices to ensure alignment with changing workforce trends, employee expectations, and institutional goals for innovation, inclusion, and long-term sustainability.Budget, Vendor Strategy & Resource StewardshipLead the development, monitoring, and refinement of the HR department's annual budget in alignment with institutional fiscal strategy and workforce priorities.Analyze current and projected staffing costs, benefits liabilities, and operational expenses to model multi-year workforce planning scenarios.Oversee vendor partnerships and contracts related to benefits, HRIS platforms, training programs, and consulting engagements-ensuring cost-effectiveness, performance accountability, and alignment with HR goals.Evaluate investment decisions across HR technologies, programs, and services to maximize ROI and operational efficiency.Partner with finance, procurement, and IT to align HR spending with university-wide resource planning frameworks.Policy, Compliance & GovernanceProvide leadership in the development, interpretation, and enforcement of HR policies that align with institutional values, legal standards, and operational needs.Partner with legal counsel to manage employee-related risk and develop systems that support ethical, transparent, and legally sound decision-making.Lead periodic policy reviews and oversee updates to employee handbooks, ensuring accessibility, clarity, and consistency.Support institutional governance by aligning HR frameworks with board-level priorities, accreditation standards, and executive expectations.HR Technology, Data & Systems InnovationAdvance the use of workforce analytics to inform executive decision-making, policy development, and workforce planning.Drive modernization of HR systems and tools to improve efficiency, service delivery, and workforce analytics.Integrate HR data into strategic reporting to support decision-making at the executive level.Employees at St. Kate's feel a deep connection to the University's Mission and Vision, and they live their values at work. Committed to excellence and opportunity, St. Catherine enrolls students in certificate, associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral programs in traditional day and evening/weekend/online formats.Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or a related fieldAt least five (5) years of experience managing a team of human resources professionalsMinimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience overseeing core HR functions, including workforce planning, recruitment, talent development, total rewards, compensation strategy, and performance managementDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholdersStrong commitment to exceptional service for employees and students, with a collaborative and inclusive mindsetExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills to operate within complex systems and HRIS platformsProven management and leadership skills to effectively lead and support a team of seven or more HR professionalsPreferred Qualifications Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related fieldSHRM-SCP, SPHR, or other advanced HR certificationExperience working in higher education or mission-driven, unionized environmentsDemonstrated success leading organizational change, workforce planning, and cultural transformation initiativesKnowledge of federal and state employment laws, labor relations, and compliance frameworks relevant to higher educationExperience with strategic planning, equity-centered policy development, and cross-functional collaboration at the senior leadership levelFamiliarity with HRIS systems such as Banner, PeopleAdmin, or similar platformsEEO Statement Compensation:The salary for this position is $147,700 - $177,200 depending on qualifications and experience.The salary range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
