Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Stepdown Discipline: RN Start Date: 04/13/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Apr 13, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) position requiring strong neuro experience, NIHSS certification, and Epic proficiency. Details Work setting is an acute care hospital Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with 31 total beds (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU) Patient population includes higher-acuity neuroscience patients with diagnoses such as strokes, seizures, craniotomies, EVDs, and post-TPA management Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3; EMU (floor) ratio is 1:5-6 Nurse aides are present on the unit with a ratio of 1:8-9 per shift Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs are not required to read strips RT is available 24/7 and manages floor vents; RNs are not required to have vent experience Titration is performed per physician orders; common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin Charting is done in Epic Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7p–7:30a, three shifts per week Every other weekend (EOW) or 2 weekend shifts per schedule required Holiday rotation participation is required Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W Requirements Active WV or compact RN license required BLS and NIHSS certifications required and must be in hand at time of consideration ACLS preferred Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Strong neuro nursing experience required, including care of stroke patients and implementation of NIH stroke scale assessments Epic EMR experience required BSN not required Valid driver's license with an address more than 50 miles from the facility required Candidates must disclose any license disciplinary history Additional Information This is a Stepdown-qualified RN position within the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Inpatient Step Down Unit EVD experience is preferred, though perm staff are typically assigned those patients; TPA patients beyond 24 hours post-administration are managed by permanent staff only A charge nurse is available 24/7 for support Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit Royal blue scrubs are required COVID vaccination is required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested and are subject to facility approval Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered Candidates who have worked within WVU Medicine for a cumulative total of one year must also take a 2-year break before returning Two supervisor or peer references are required for consideration, including one supervisor reference if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration Copies of certifications and a valid driver's license are required for consideration American Traveler Job ID #P-691552.
