The charting system used is Cerner power chart maternity and Cerner fetal links for fetal heart monitoring. The role includes charge nurse responsibilities and patient triage. Aides are provided by OB techs when there are no cases. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend and holidays rotate among staff. Scrub color is ceil blue, provided by the facility. Anesthesia services are available 24/7, with immediate response for patients in active labor. The majority of patients elect for an epidural during labor. During after-hours and weekends, private OB/GYN physicians are available. There is no dedicated IV team but respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. Pharmacy services are available daily from 7 AM to 10:30 PM, with satellite support. Shifts begin at 7 AM and 7 PM. There is a rotating floating requirement to post-partum. The orientation includes three shifts on unit, with additional shifts in labor & delivery and maternity. The patient population largely consists of those with a higher socioeconomic status, with a median maternal age of 37. Translation services are utilized frequently due to the diverse population. All staff assist with triage and non-stress tests. Call is optional but may be required if census is low, with a requirement to remain within 20 minutes of the facility. A sleep room is available for use. The facility can cancel up to four shifts during the assignment.
