The Principal facilitates the professional growth of the staff, collects and analyzes data to lead the instructional program, and ensures a safe learning environment. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree with emphasis in educational administrationValid State of Ohio Certificate/License for an Elementary PrincipalDemonstrated leadership in educationDemonstrated skill in conflict resolutionDemonstrated leadership in educational administration or equivalent experienceDemonstrated skill in oral and written communicationUnderstanding of curriculum and instructionUnderstanding of developmental growth and impact on student learningESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Continuous ImprovementPrincipals help create a shared vision and clear goals for their schools and ensure continuous progress toward achieving the goals. Collaborates with the staff to plan and leads regular meetings of the professional staffUnderstands and uses assessment data to evaluate and improve instructionServes as a member of the district's administrative teamParticipates in professional organizations and activitiesInstructionPrincipals support the implementation of high-quality standards-based instruction that results in higher levels of achievement for all students. Develops, promotes, and ensures the implementation of curricular and instructional programEnsures student achievementEnsures that continuous improvement planning occur at the building level and supports the district's strategies planEnsures the coordination of all building programs including instruction, drug and alcohol, technology, academically talented, guidance and counseling, special education, library/media, student services, intervention and healthSchool Operations, Resources and Learning Environment Principals allocate resources and manage school operations in order to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Oversees the daily operation of the elementary school programWorks with the Department of Human Resources to select, appropriately assign, and encourage professional growth of new staff membersSupervises and maintains student record keeping procedures related to attendance, assessment, student progress, health and emergency dataEnsures safety, health and welfare of students and staffDirects and monitors the building budget and collect designated feesEnsures and coordinates maintenance housekeeping and security of facilities and propertyCommunicates all personnel issues to the Assistant Superintendant and Department of Human ResourcesCollaborationPrincipals establish and sustain collaborative learning and shared leadership to promote student learning and achievement of all students. Works with staff to create a positive environmentAssumes such other responsibilities and performs other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.Parents and Community EngagementPrincipals engage parents and community members in the educational process and create an environment where community resources support student learning, achievement and well being.Serves as a key communicator between the school and the communityWorks with parent/teacher groups in support of the total school programREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to lead and motivate staff and students.Knowledge of child development and modes of learning.Ability to work cooperatively with building and district staff, parents, agency personnel and community members.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.Effective active listening skills.Well-developed organizational and problem solving skills.Sound judgment and a sense of humor.Knowledge of curriculum and successful teaching strategies.Team building skills.Knowledge of Ohio school law.Knowledge of educational administration and school finance.
