Junior Lock Technician (Traveling Installer)Project Locations: Chicago, IL & Norfolk, VA (Military Bases) Travel Required: Yes Home Base: Columbia, SC Clear Background Required: Must be eligible for base access (no security clearance needed) Role Overview This entrylevel role supports the installation of basic mechanical/electronic lock systems on barracks doors at U.S. military bases. Work involves removing existing mechanical locks and installing new preconfigured units similar to hotelstyle door locks. No programming or advanced electronics experience is required. Key Responsibilities Remove old mechanical locks from barracks doors using hand and power tools. Install new basic lock systems by aligning, mounting, and securing hardware. Ensure proper fit, function, and alignment of installed locks. Follow onsite procedures for working on military bases. Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow safety protocols. Communicate progress, issues, and completion status to project leads. Required Skills & Qualifications Ability to obtain access to military bases (clean background; no clearance required). Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using drills, screwdrivers, and hand tools. Ability to follow installation instructions and work with simple electronic lock hardware. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or with a small team. Willingness to travel for multiday or multiweek assignments. Ability to lift 25-40 lbs and stand for extended periods. Preferred (Not Required) Experience with hotelstyle locks or basic hardware installation. Previous work on military bases or secure facilities. General construction, maintenance, or handyman experience. What We Provide Training on the lock system and installation process. Travel arrangements and per diem. Tools and equipment as needed.
