Clinical Coding Specialist

Overview: Our client, a Global Fortune 50 organization and one of world’s largest distributors of healthcare systems, medical supplies & Pharmaceutical products, seeks an accomplished Clinical Coding Specialist. Job Title: Clinical Coding Specialist Location: Houston TX (REMOTE) Duration: 6 Months (Approx. based on total hours) Pay Rate: $28.00-$30.00 per hour Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Central Time) 40 hours per week || Weekly timesheets Remote role (Preference for candidates local to Houston, TX) Must-Have Requirements: Strong experience in ICD-9 CM and CPT-4 coding Risk Adjustment experience (required – include years in submission) Ability to abstract clinical data from medical records Experience with DRG assignment validation Strong analytical and data entry skills Responsibilities: Abstract clinical data from patient medical records Assign appropriate ICD-9 CM and CPT-4 codes Validate and confirm DRG assignments Analyze and input data into clinical databases Ensure compliance with coding standards and regulatory requirements Maintain accuracy and quality in coding processes Resolve coding discrepancies and data inconsistencies Work independently while adhering to established procedures Required Qualifications: Associate or bachelor’s Degree. Minimum 5 years of proven experience in medical coding (ICD-9 CM and CPT-4). Experience with risk adjustment coding. Strong understanding of DRG assignment processes. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Proficiency in handling clinical data and medical records. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Good communication and documentation skills. Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards. Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS). Experience in oncology or specialty clinical environments. Prior experience working in large healthcare organizations. Familiarity with coding audit and quality review processes.
