The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek. Job Type Unclassified Department Facilities Management About the Position Operations and Maintenance is a customer-driven support division that provides day-to-day maintenance and ensures the successful operation of all County Facilities. The Duty Plant Operator operates and monitors the 24-hour Facilities Automation System (FAS). This position initiates corrective action in trouble or emergency situations by dispatching appropriate staff for HVAC, mechanical, and boiler equipment, fire and elevator alarms, and other services. Schedule: Sunday through Wednesday, 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with on-call responsibilities. This is an overnight position and qualifies for a shift differential. Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require Three years of experience operating and maintaining equipment for building systems, such as HVAC, boilers, combustion controls, water treatment systems, or performing stationary engineer duties High school diploma or GED Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education may substitute for up to one year of the experience requirement Other Requirements Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and MCSO background investigation and TOC certification to access County detention facilities We Also Value Experience in industrial or heavy commercial, institutional/detention environment Experience in the use of Facilities Automation Systems (FAS) Trained in the use of Maximo or other computer-based work order management systems Job Contributions Operate PCs, boilers, air handlers, air compressors, domestic water system, chilled water system, water softeners, heating system, air movement equipment, sewer injection systems Input and dispatch routine and emergency work orders using the maintenance management system and Windows software. Maintains constant verbal communication with clients and field technicians, monitors and controls temperatures utilizing the Facilities Automation System computer, notifies proper authorities and management staff on emergency calls Monitor HVAC, chemical treatment/refrigerant alarms, elevator and fire alarms, and respond appropriately Monitor and respond to building indoor air quality issues Maintain the duty operator log and a variety of other daily logs Collect and analyze data to ensure the continuous operation of pump systems and air handling equipment throughout the administration, courts, jails, and other buildings of the County Work assigned shift to support the 24-hour per day, 7-day a week operation of the call center and maintain regular and reliable attendance Call out on-call personnel during after-hours emergency situations Other job duties as assigned Working Conditions Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations.
