Production Coating Process Technician I This role supports coating operations through daily process improvement, equipment troubleshooting, machine operation, preventive maintenance, and training of production operators. Technicians in this position show a developing aptitude for solving problems, preventing recurring issues, and contributing to continuous improvement within both the process and themselves. They also demonstrate a basic understanding of operations, equipment, and workflows, and apply these skills when collaborating with peers, engineers, or cross-functional teams. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A Coating Process Tech I is expected to demonstrate developing strength in the following areas: Safety & Operations Identify and eliminate safety risks to promote a safe, effective work environment. Perform and participate in weekly operations preventive maintenance (Ops PM). Create, train, maintain, and audit Centerlines for any coating-area processes. Training & Communication Train production operators in troubleshooting, TCC usage, Ops PM activities, and other areas as assigned. Provide feedback regarding processes and potential improvements to Engineers or Managers. Accurately communicate shift findings and activities in passdown meetings. Materials & Quality Demonstrate basic knowledge of raw materials and quality testing requirements. Collect samples and perform standard testing in collaboration with quality techs and operators. Understand quality criteria for finished products and troubleshoot process-related defects. Develop introductory understanding of coating properties (e.g., % solids, viscosity, pH) and material chemistry. Process Understanding Build knowledge of key coating process steps: forming part quality, coating application, drying, cooling, and stacking/counting. Develop introductory skills across forming and coating processes, including machine steps such as denesting, EOAT/pick-and-place transfer, coating booth operations, ovens/dryers, and stacking/counting. Gain general knowledge of process control, valve and instrument function, and coating-product interactions. Collaboration & Improvement Work with Process Engineers and SMEs to understand equipment, process flow, raw materials, and performance outcomes. Support new equipment installation, startup, or optimization with vendors or suppliers. Partner with the Maintenance team on PMs, spare-parts identification, and developing best practices for equipment care. Participate in process trials (with Engineering support or independently) by identifying rationale, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting outcomes using DMAIC and other Lean Six Sigma concepts. Technology & Documentation Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to document process changes, track outcomes, and support Centerline adherence. Develop and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or Work Instructions as needed. Deliver presentations to plant leadership and peers when required. Duties and Responsibilities Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times. Perform independent troubleshooting and support continuous process improvement. Work independently on assigned projects or tasks as needed. Complete tasks and responsibilities assigned by supervisor or management. Carry out all other duties as required.
