We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team! You will handle key accounting functions, including general ledger management, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting. You'll work closely with other project teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information, support audits, and provide analysis to help management make informed decisions. This role also offers the chance to mentor junior team members, identify process improvements, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization! This is a hybrid position, requiring in-office work three days per week at our St. Paul, Minnesota location. Key Responsibilities Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts. Ensure all entries are accurate and properly documented. Perform month-end and year-end closing activities. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Assist in preparing internal management reports. Ensure compliance with GAAP, CAS, DCAA, FAR, and other federal/state regulations as applicable. Process invoices, payments, and expense reports. Reconcile vendor statements and customer accounts. Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue balances. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany accounts. Investigate and resolve discrepancies. Assist with internal and external audits. Prepare schedules, supporting documentation, and analysis. Coordinate with auditors on requested items. Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts. Assist in account variance analysis. Offer insights on trends and cost-saving opportunities. Identify inefficiencies in accounting workflows. Recommend automation or process changes. Implement internal control procedures. Handle accruals, depreciation, amortization, and journal entries for complex transactions. Ensure compliance with tax, statutory, and company policies. Assist with sales tax, payroll tax, and other filings. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong general ledger and month-end close experience. Solid understanding of GAAP and experience working in a regulated environment; knowledge of CAS, DCAA, and FAR strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Advanced experience with reconciliations, accruals, depreciation, amortization, and complex journal entries. Experience leading or playing a key role in month-end and year-end close processes. Experience supporting internal and external audits, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests. Ability to perform variance analysis, identify trends, and provide meaningful financial insights to management. Experience assisting with budgeting and forecasting processes. Strong understanding of internal controls and ability to identify and implement process improvements. Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis). Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to mentor or guide accounting staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments. High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
