Government Payroll Specialist Brentwood, TN 37027| Fully in Office| Full-Time We are seeking a detail‑oriented and knowledgeable Government Payroll Specialist to run payroll processing in a professional, confidential, and team‑oriented environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple government departments (fire department, police station, dispatchers, government employees, etc.) Key Responsibilities - Government Payroll Specialist Administer and process bi‑weekly payroll by verifying time records, calculating wages, taxes, and deductions, and ensuring timely direct deposits in compliance with applicable laws and internal policies. Prepare and file payroll‑related tax documents and reports; maintain accurate payroll records and reconciliations. Coordinate employee benefits billing, enrollments, changes, and open enrollment activities; reconcile benefit deductions with vendor invoices. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for employees and supervisors regarding payroll, benefits, and general HR procedures. Maintain accurate personnel and retiree records in accordance with retention and confidentiality standards. Prepare payroll summaries, compliance surveys, reports, and employment verifications; collaborate with finance teams on reconciliations and reporting. Assist with HR administrative support, employee engagement initiatives, policy updates, and special projects as assigned. Qualifications - Government Payroll Specialist Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred. Minimum of five years of payroll processing experience with responsibility for full payroll cycles for government employees.(fire department, police station, dispatchers, government employees, etc.) Prior human resources experience is strongly preferred; public sector or government experience Strong working knowledge of payroll systems, HRIS platforms, payroll tax regulations, and federal/state employment laws. UKG software required CitySuite software is highly preferred but not required Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including formulas, pivot tables, and lookups). Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, problem‑solving ability, and discretion in handling sensitive information. Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. #INAPR2026
