Level 3 Trauma Center. Stroke Center of Excellence. Bariatric Center of Excellence. Chest Pain Center. Unit Information: Beds: 28. Average Census: 28. Accepts first-time travelers with at least 2 years of experience. Unit culture focused on providing quality patient care through communication and teamwork. Common patient types and diagnoses include acute respiratory failure, COPD, CHF, PE, NSTEMI, CVA, sepsis, GI bleed, and AFib/flutter. Patient ratios are RN: 1:4 progressive, 1:5 medical. Skills required include: Bipap, Optiflow (high flow), nasal cannula 1-15L, home vent care, trach care, chest tube management, Pleurx drain, ostomy care, wound vac care, post pacemaker care, TR band post heart catheterization, peripheral IV starts, and blood draws. Medication drip management includes the following: Heparin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Labetalol, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Nesiritide, Cardene, Nitroglycerine, and Phenobarbital - all administered either IV push, titration, or IV. Support within the department includes CNAs for vital signs, blood sugars, ADLs, foley placements, lab draws, etc. Receptionist available Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM. Charge nurse typically serves as free charge. Phlebotomy services provided by nursing and CNA staff. Respiratory therapy available 24/7 with two staff on days and one on nights on the unit. Hospitalist and intensivist services available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring/tech support is present. Technology and equipment used include EMR, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and monitoring equipment. Floating may occur within region and scope of practice. Scrubs must be navy blue.
