There are two operating rooms and two triage beds available. The unit has 18 postpartum beds. The average number of births is approximately 130 per month. Ratios are 1:1 close to delivery, 1:2 otherwise, and 1:4 for couplets on postpartum. The fetal monitoring system used is Obix. The electronic medical record system is Cerner. Charge nurse responsibilities are shared between Labor & Delivery and postpartum. Scrub techs assist in Labor & Delivery, with no additional nurse aides or OB techs. The weekend requirement is four shifts in a four-week period. No call requirement is in place for this position. Holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday. Major RN holidays include Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year's. Scrub colors are provided. This is an acute care setting with a focus on high-risk deliveries. Common diagnoses and types of patients include cases as early as 23 weeks. Perinatology support is available for known cardiac abnormalities. Floating to postpartum is not standard unless the nurse has NICU experience for feeder/grower patients. Floor-specific orientation consists of three shifts. The facility operates with RT and pharmacy support available 24/7. The unit represents a high demand for skilled Labor & Delivery professionals. Cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts to be canceled per assignment.
