Resource RN (Float) - Emergency Department, Medical-Surgical, and Progressive Care Unit Position Summary: The Resource RN provides professional nursing care within assigned departments and coordinates care planning with interdisciplinary teams. This role involves caring for diverse patient populations and prioritizing care based on physical and psychosocial needs, while ensuring effective patient flow. The Resource RN communicates changes in patient condition, results of diagnostic tests, and treatment response promptly to physicians and care teams. This is a float position requiring flexibility and high proficiency across multiple care areas, including the Emergency Department (ED) , Medical-Surgical (MS) , and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) . The ability to work independently and adapt in a small, rural hospital environment is essential. Essential Functions: Perform head-to-toe assessments across age groups, including pediatric, geriatric, and general populations. Assess and manage pain using appropriate techniques; educate patients and families on pain management. Continuously evaluate and revise care plans based on treatment response. Deliver age-appropriate, safe, and effective medication administration using the six medication rights. Develop and evaluate individualized teaching plans based on identified patient/family learning needs. Provide skilled support for procedures and demonstrate technical competency within licensure scope. Interpret cardiac monitoring data and respond to dysrhythmias in accordance with ACLS protocols. Monitor hemodynamic status and interpret results accurately. Manage patients with complex nutritional, metabolic, fluid, and electrolyte needs. Coordinate with other departments for holistic, interdisciplinary care. Float between units as needed, assisting with admissions, transfers, and direct patient care. Maintain effective communication with charge nurses, physicians, and colleagues. Respond rapidly and accurately to changes in patient condition. Perform duties in a flexible, organized, and calm manner under pressure.
