Broadley-James Corporation designs and manufactures pH and dissolved oxygen sensors for biopharmaceutical companies involved in fermentation and large scale cell culture applications. We service a worldwide customer base and provide in-depth technical support as well as superior sensor products to a demanding industry.We are seeking a Business Controller that serves as the head of the Finance and Accounting function and acts as the liaison between the Finance Department and executive leadership. This position is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting strategic decision-making, and presenting accurate, timely financial information to senior leadership. This role reports directly to the COO and partners closely with corporate officers to support operational efficiency, financial planning, and long-term business objectives.Tasks/Responsibilities:Financial Leadership & StrategyLeads and manages all financial functions of the organization, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with business goalsServes as the primary financial liaison between the Finance Department and corporate officersProvides strategic financial insights to support executive decision-makingPresents monthly financial performance reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to the COO and PresidentWorks closely with the Finance Manager of the Company's UK subsidiary to ensures timely and accurate completion of monthly close activities and financial reportingCoordinates entity-level financial reporting and ensures results are properly consolidated into global roll-up financial presentationsSupports consistency in accounting treatment, reporting standards, and presentation across domestic and international entitiesSupports long-term planning initiatives including capital investments, cost control strategies, and operational improvementsAccounting OperationsOversees the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processesEnsures the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and all supporting schedulesSupervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functionsMaintains and improves internal controls and financial proceduresEnsures timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAPOversees NetSuite configuration impacting financial reporting, including chart of accounts, segments, classifications, and approval workflowsServes as the primary internal resource for maintaining financial system controls within NetSuite and coordinating updates, enhancements, and issue resolution with internal stakeholders and external support partners as neededBudgeting, Forecasting & AnalysisLeads the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting activitiesMonitors departmental and company-wide performance against budgetsPerforms variance analysis and recommends corrective actions where appropriateDevelops financial models to support operational and strategic initiativesCompliance & External CoordinationOversees tax compliance in coordination with external CPA firmsEnsures compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirementsCoordinates external audits and financial reviewsMaintains compliance with internal corporate policies and reporting requirements; initiates the creation of policies and procedures within the department, where necessaryManufacturing & Operational SupportPartners with operations leadership to analyze production costs, inventory levels, and margin performanceMonitors cost accounting structures and recommends efficiency improvementsSupports inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance trackingProvides financial insight into purchasing, production planning, and capital expendituresTeam Leadership & DevelopmentDirectly supervises and mentors the Junior Accountant and Accounting ClerkEstablishes priorities, workflows, and performance expectations within the departmentPromotes a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvementIdentifies opportunities to enhance departmental efficiency through process improvements and automationAbilities:Strategic financial analysis and business partnershipStrong leadership and communication skillsHigh attention to detail and organizational capabilityAbility to translate financial data into actionable insightsProcess improvement mindsetAbility to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environmentMaintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment at all timesAbility to provide proactive financial guidance that supports operational excellence and business growth.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
