The Zoological Society of Milwaukee's Conservation Education Department is hiring Summer Camp Assistants as part of our summer education (Zoo Camp) programs. This position is only open to those who have completed participation in the High School Assistant (HSA) program for a minimum of two summers. This position helps support the operation of summer Zoo Camps. The Summer Camp Assistant will work to develop child management techniques and professional skills under the mentorship of an experienced team of educators and is supervised by the Conservation Careers Coordinator. The Summer Camp Assistant plays a critical role in support of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee's (ZSM) mission to educate people about the importance of wildlife and animals and support the Milwaukee County Zoo, and the Conservation Education department's vision to inspire and empower all members of our community to take conservation action.Rate of Pay: $11.85Dates: June 11 - August 19, mandatory training on May 30 and June 11Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 1:30pm OR 12:30pm - 5:30pmRESPONSIBILITIESServe as a Summer Camp Assistant for Zoological Society of Milwaukee's summer education programs (Zoo Camps and Classes).Support staff in implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and engaging Zoo education experience for participants.Work in a team to supervise Zoo Campers during lunch and after camp activities.Assist the Summer Camp Coordinator and Camp Management Assistant in responding to medical and behavioral incidents during the camp day.Assist education instructors and interns in classroom educational activities and Zoo tours.Prepare classroom materials, set-up and clean classroom spaces.Learn child management and interpersonal skills to connect to a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and participants.Act with integrity and professionalism in the workplace at all times, and in representation of ZSM on Zoo grounds.Assist with Conservation Education Department light housekeeping.QUALIFICATIONSMust be at least 16 years of age.Must have completed participation in the High School Assistant (HSA) program for a minimum of two summers.Must be able to attend mandatory training on May 30 and June 11.Must be fully available for a regular shift schedule of either 8:30am - 1:30pm or 12:30pm - 5:30pm June 11th through August 19th (excluding July 3rd and 4th).Must have reliable transportation to the Milwaukee County Zoo.The Zoological Society of Milwaukee believes diversity, equity, access, and inclusion (DEAI) are the hallmarks of a robust, vibrant community and have adopted DEAI as foundational to our organizations' priorities and values.
