The City of Hampton is seeking a General Maintenance Mechanic to perform general maintenance activities in a variety of skilled trade areas to include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating and air conditioning.  The class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Minimum Requirements * High school diploma or GED. * One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in at least one of the following maintenance areas: electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, or carpentry *  Some experience and knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment required for the installation and maintenance of building components or closely related experience. * This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. *  Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. * Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
