Rochester Urban Fellows Summer Associate Rochester Urban Fellows emphasizes civic engagement, promotes learning about social issues, and addresses root causes of poverty in Rochester, New York and the surrounding area. The components of the program include a summer fellowship and faculty-led urban issue dialogues. Associates serve four days a week with not-for-profit agencies located in and around the City of Rochester. Placements will be in the focus areas of combating summer learning loss and supporting summer food programs. Associates will also attend weekly seminars each week to promote the understanding of the history, politics, demographics, and the sociology of urban systems in the area. Seminars are led by University of Rochester faculty along with community leaders. At the end of the program, members will give presentations based on their experiences and share their work at a symposium. They will also be recognized at a ceremony at City Hall in Rochester. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here. Member Duties : VISTA Summer Associates will work on projects with various non-profit organizations in the Rochester area. These projects fall primarily into the focus areas of education (summer learning), healthy futures (summer food programs), economic opportunity (workforce development), and environmental stewardship. Several sites will also focus on community engagement. Depending on the host site, VISTA Summer Associates will be involved with community research, outreach, marketing, community partnerships, tutoring, assessment, youth programming, and fundraising activities.
