Job Description

Position Overview The HME Specialist I is an entry-level role within the Mayo Clinic Stores, offering multiple career growth opportunities. This position focuses on assisting patients with home medical equipment (HME), providing excellent customer service, and ensuring accurate processing of insurance and billing information. Key Responsibilities Assist patients in selecting and learning to use home medical equipment based on provider prescriptions Accurately gather and process patient registration and insurance information Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information Support inventory management, including cycle counts and stock maintenance Provide product education for items such as: Mobility aids CPAP machines and supplies Breast pumps Compression garments and braces Wound care, ostomy, and urology supplies Oxygen services and other medical equipment Work in either a retail store setting or call center environment Deliver patient-centered care considering age and ability needs Required Skills & Qualifications Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and internet use Basic to moderate computer knowledge (including keyboarding skills) Comfortable learning new technologies and software (e.g., Epic) Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities Excellent customer service skills with professionalism Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Preferred Qualifications Experience in customer service, sales, healthcare, or patient care Knowledge of healthcare terminology and workflows Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing Prior experience with durable medical equipment (DME) Experience using Epic systems Education Requirements Required: Associate degree in finance, business, or healthcare-related field AND 1 year of relevant experience.
