Job Summary: The CNC Machinist II is responsible for setting up, operating, and proving out programs on CNC machining centers to manufacture precision hydraulic manifolds. This role requires safely running unproven Mazatrol programs, walking tools in, validating intersecting bores and critical features, and confirming first-piece acceptance prior to full production. The CNC Machinist II applies sound machining judgment to ensure parts meet dimensional, functional, and quality requirements in a high-mix manufacturing environment. Duties/Responsibilities: Set up and operate 4-axis/5-axis Mazak CNC machining centers using the Mazatrol programming language. Load, review, and safely execute new or unproven programs. Walk tools in using dry runs, single-block, and reduce rapid/feed rates to verify tool paths and machine motion. Perform controlled program prove-outs to validate machining processes. Make tool offsets, wear adjustments, and minor Mazatrol edits as needed. Validate first-piece hydraulic manifolds prior to full production. Machine and inspect intersecting bores, cross-holes, ports, sealing surfaces, and critical features. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and hydraulic port callouts. Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work holding. Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, bore gages, indicators, height gages, etc.) Identify and troubleshoot issues related to tooling, setup, material, or program execution. Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards Communicate issues, risks, and improvement opportunities with supervisors, engineering, and quality. Support continuous improvement efforts related to cycle time, scrap reduction, and process stability. Assist with training or technical support of CNC Machinist I personnel as needed. Required Skills/Abilities: Proven ability to run unproven CNC programs. Ability to independently perform setups, prove-outs, and first-piece validation. Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills. Proficiency with precision inspection tools. Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials. Education and Experience: 3-8 years of CNC machining experience. Strong experience with Mazak machines and Mazatrol. Experience with tight-tolerance and surface finish requirements. Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 quality systems. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, feel/reach with hands/arms, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and walk. The employee is occasionally required to bend and stop, push and pull, reach above shoulder level, kneel, squat, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Required Skills/Abilities: Understanding work order, blueprints, control plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, critical surfaces/edges, and machining parameters while interpreting geometric dimension and tolerances (GD&T) Understanding work instructions ad zero/reference points Understanding of basic math, geometry, and trigonometry Positive and proactive attitude toward completing work orders Willingness to learn and grow through Sun Hydraulics Meeting commitments and obligations Education and Experience: High school diploma/GED required Technical college degree preferred 2+ years' experience using production machinery Experience working with a Mazak Star/Integrex or Swiss Lathes a plus Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing Prolonged period of sitting Ability to lift 50 pounds at times
