GHD is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to support a wide range of capital improvement and rehabilitation projects at one of our client's facilities at the Port of Los Angeles, with opportunities with a talented team across California and Arizona. This role is ideal for a construction professional with strong technical judgment, field experience, and a safety-first mindset, collaborating with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and safety managers to deliver complex projects safely and successfully. Projects may include stormwater and drainage improvements, structural upgrades, building rehabilitation, concrete construction, temporary works and shoring systems, and site civil improvementsconstructed in active, fast-paced environments where coordination, risk management, and safety are critical. Work will involve exposure to construction sites, temporary works, and complex phasing conditions. This position will be located at a client site five days per week. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the Owner's Representative during construction for large facility and infrastructure projects Lead and enforce construction safety culture, including contractor safety plans, job hazard analyses, and site safety meetings Manage construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and claims support Oversee stormwater and erosion control implementation, including BMPs and regulatory compliance Monitor structural, concrete, and shoring activities for conformance with plans, specifications, and safety requirements Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, civil, and environmental design teams to resolve field issues Track construction schedules, phasing, and sequencing to minimize impacts to facility operations Monitor construction costs, forecasts, and change management Perform, oversee, or coordinate field inspections, quality control, and testing Facilitate coordination among multiple contractors, facility staff, inspectors, and regulatory agencies Prepare daily field reports, weekly progress updates, and executive-level summaries Support project closeout, commissioning, and turnover Additional Responsibilities: Stakeholder Management: Plan and deliver stakeholder engagement activities to develop effective working relationships for projects and to ensure that stakeholder needs and concerns are identified and met. Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals. Performance Management: Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization's performance management systems to improve personal performance. Or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold people accountable for achieving them, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives. Organizational Capability Building: Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions to build their capabilities. Provide training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Project Scope Definition: Manage the delivery of research, workshops, and other activities to support the specification and agreement of project deliverables. Project Closeout and Handover: Provide appropriate documentation and training to enable successful transition to business as usual. Identify and record lessons learned to inform future project activity. Client & Customer Management (External): Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience) Experience: Minimum 10 years of construction management, construction supervision, or owner's representative experience Strong working knowledge of construction contracts, means and methods, and field safety Experience working in active or occupied facilities Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills Ability to work on-site in construction environments Safety Emphasis: Safety is a core value of this role.
