Position DetailsPosition Information Job Title Pilot Express Director Department Student Activities Terms and Hours Flexible hours, mostly around UP breaks and on weekends Job Category Student Stipend Hourly Wage Monthly Stipend Payment ($1,500 per semester) Job Summary This is not a Student Employment Position. This is a student volunteer experience. Volunteer experience participants receive monthly stipend payments.The Pilot Express Director is responsible for coordinating the Pilot Express rider program from campus to the airport on breaks including Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and Easter. The service does NOT run during Fall move-in or Spring move-out time frames. Additional services such as rides to the train station and weekly grocery store runs may be implemented if the Director and drives have the capacity.Core Duties Ensure that shuttle vans run between campus and various transportation locations are scheduled at times that meet student needs.Reserve or rent minivans as needed.Hire qualified drivers for the shuttle program. All drivers must be oriented, trained, and documented as an official University of Portland drivers with the Office of Campus Safety. Those who drive the rental vans must be over 21 per company policy and have a copy of their driver's license on file at the car rental company.Advertise the times and dates that Pilot Express will be operating to ensure a high level of use and participation. It is preferred that marketing materials be distributed one week prior to the sign-up period (which is approximately two weeks before the first run).Create and collect one reservation form/contract per student rider requesting the service and explaining the Pilot Express procedures and inclement weather policies.Create and maintain a master schedule for each break including a list of drivers and riders. Submit copies to Vice President for ASUP and the Pilot Express Advisor, and Public Safety at least 24 hours prior to the first run. Respond to requests for schedule adjustments as necessary.Carry an on call phone during Pilot Express hours of operation.Fill in as a driver if additional coverage is neededAll emergencies, accidents, and problems needed to be reported immediately to the Pilot Express Advisor or Student Activities staff member on-call and Public Safety. Incidents need to be documented and submitted to the Vice President for ASUP.Other relevant duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications Excellent customer service skills, particularly able to reduce anxiety or stress when adjustments need to be made to schedules.Knowledge of how to use Microsoft Excel and Word as a planning and administrative tools are required.Must be available to serve during the times when Pilot Express is in operation.Must hold a valid driver's licenseMust hold a driving record that is absent of any severe violationsMust be oriented, trained, and certified through Campus Safety Safe Driving CoursePreferred Qualifications Organizational and time management skills are preferred.Strong written and verbal communication are preferred.Physical RequirementsPosting Detail Information Posting Number SE929-2023 Number of Vacancies 1 Estimated Start Date 08/24/2026 Open Date 02/13/2026 Close Date 04/17/2026
