Position Type: Administration/Supervisor of TransportationDate Posted: 3/24/2026Location: CCPS School Board Office Date Available: 07/01/2026TITLETRANSPORTATION SUPERVISORPOSITION TYPEExemptPRIMARY FUNCTIONPosition is responsible for managing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of the daily operations of a small, rural public school transportation system comprised of hourly, part-time, and full-time employees, routes, athletics and field trips annually. This position ensures compliance with School Board Policy, federal, state, and local regulations regarding pupil transportation.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *Must be a self-motivated leader with excellent supervisory skills required. *Bachelor's Degree preferred with five years or more of transportation and management experience. *Must understand systems and the importance of communicating essential information to employees. *Must possess knowledge of, or the ability to learn accurately and quickly, school bus loads, routes, schedules, and Charles City County roads. *Must be proficient with Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel. *Must have a Commercial Driver's License, Class B with P, S endorsements. *Ability to work in a cooperative team setting with minimal supervision. *Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. *Knowledge of transportation safety protocols and legal compliance. *Prior experience in transportation or fleet operations, school transportation preferred. *Ability to work flexible hours, including in emergency situations.REPORTS TODirector of Operations and TechnologyPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES *Processes timesheets for payroll for all Transportation staff to include bus drivers, bus assistants, and car drivers. *Resolves citizen, parent, school staff and employee concerns according to policy and procedure in a timely manner. *Investigates accidents involving School Board vehicles to include cars, vans, and buses. *Assists the Director of Operations and Technology with conducting a continuing study of transportation policies, programs, and practices and recommends new approaches and procedures to effect improvements in the efficiency of the department and services performed. *Supervises and assists with all aspects of dispatching to include emergency responses to crisis. *Ensure drivers are assigned to all extra trips and routes while adhering to rotation policy avoiding unfair distribution of hours. *Assists the Director of Operations and Technology in the preparation of the State Report, budget and any other reports as required. *Processes paperwork for all accidents and incidents. *Organizes meetings by creating the agendas, notifying the staff and keeping detailed records of meeting discussions. *Coordinates the Random Drug and Alcohol Screening for staff to include bus drivers, car drivers, mechanics, and maintenance staff. *Evaluates programs, such as safety, using techniques such as unannounced audits in the field to ensure compliance with policy, procedures and safety initiatives. *Conducts research, analysis and preparation of reports and briefings for the Director of Operations and Technology. *Attend professional meetings, seminars, and workshops. *Works with Human Resources to offer contracts to new employees and make contract adjustments to existing employees. *Collaborates with Human Resources to attract, develop, and retain quality transportation employees. *Keeps sensitive records of all incidents, accidents and paperwork regarding injury. *Works with the transportation employees and Human Resources on all FMLA paperwork. *Keeps records of the determination and enters absences into Absence Management accordingly. *Invoices all trips as necessary. *Supports a cooperative relationship with the appropriate law enforcement agencies. *Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills. *Willing to drive to assist when there is a need. *Knowledge of transportation safety protocols and legal compliance. *Ability to work flexible hours, including in emergency situations. *Must be able to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information appropriately. *Assesses the performance of bus drivers, car drivers, bus monitors, and mechanics. *Supervises the daily operations of the bus garage. Determines work priorities, plans, schedules, assigns and reviews work. Provides guidance and training to assigned personnel. *Plans and coordinates the preventive maintenance program for buses, other school vehicles, and related equipment. Coordinates repair work with regular maintenance schedules. *Ensure that our mechanics establishes and maintains complete and accurate records and files. *Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
