JOB DESCRIPTION Department: METCO Job Title: METCO Bus Monitor FLSA Status: (Exempt/Non-exempt) Non-exempt, Non-aligned Reports to: METCO Director, Building Principal GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE): The METCO Bus Monitor provides supervision for students on the Newton METCO program as they travel from school. This is a part-time position with hours from 2:30pm - 4:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 1:45pm - 3:45pm on Tuesdays; and 11:30am - 1:30pm on Early Release Days. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * High School education * Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues * Excellent oral and written communication skills DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Experience working with middle school-age children ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO): * Ride the bus with Newton METCO students at Bigelow and Oak Hill from Newton to Boston in the afternoons * Manage student behavior on the bus by promoting a positive and safe environment * Ensure the safety of students riding the bus by adhering to school-based and bus rules of conduct * Coach and support students on socio-emotional behavior plans by aligning expectations to the classroom * Complete incident reports when bus and school-based rules of conduct are violated * Submit incident reports to Newton METCO office and Building Principal/Administrator * Consistent and on-time attendance is required or supervision and instruction of the students * Responsible for implementing "other job related duties" as needed * May be expected to provide substitute educator services * May be expected to attend trainings related to position WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work Environment: Majority of work is performed on a bus. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
