Head - Grounds Pay Grade: DO 5 - 261 Days Dept./School: Facility Services Date Revised: 01/06/2026 Primary Purpose: Under supervision of a licensed irrigator, maintain all sprinkler systems and related equipment in top working order so as to minimize interruption of the education process caused by equipment. Qualifications: Education/Certification: * Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier Special Knowledge/Skills: * Ability to follow oral and written directions Experience: * None Major Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance, Installation, Repair * Maintain all underground sprinkler systems. * Locate water leaks caused by broken heads, valves, lines, etc. * Repair broken heads, lines, valves, etc. * Install new sprinkler systems. * Modify existing sprinkler systems. * Determine appropriate parts to be used according to water pressure and system design. * Determine the amount of parts needed to repair systems or install new systems. * Purchase supplies from appropriate vendors. * Check systems for appropriate operation. Safety * Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. * Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Various irrigation tools and equipment Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to read English.
