Position Type: Clerical/Paraprofessional Support/Daycare Aide Date Posted: 1/16/2026 Location: Stafford Early Childhood Center Date Available: 01/16/2026 Closing Date: Until Filled   Additional Information: Show/Hide Description: Under general supervision, to assist teacher in planning, supervision, curriculum development and classroom arrangement, organization and maintenance; to provide instructional support and learning enrichment, using developmentally appropriate practices and materials; to monitor child safety, perform housekeeping functions, and assist in the physical care and feeding of children; and to perform related work as required. All employees of SMSD are expected to act with integrity, support, and demonstrate our core values, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, and seek to continuously improve self-performance and processes Job Summary: Special Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of: * Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. * Basic math. * General needs and behavior of young children from birth to seven years old. * Children's recreational activities involving sports, games, and crafts. * Record keeping procedures and practices. * Basic computer operating techniques. * Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. * Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing * Good knowledge of early childhood growth and development Ability To: * Assist with learning activities in an academic setting. * Supervise students in a classroom and out-of-door activities. * Perform routine clerical duties. * Speak and write clearly and effectively. * Operate a computer terminal using standard software. * Keyboard at a level required for job success. * Communicate with students and motivate them to participate in activities. * Recognize and remove safety hazards to students. * Learn laws, rules, practices, and procedures related to public education and related ? to the program to which assigned. * Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. * Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work Major Responsibilities and Duties: Child Care and Classroom Responsibilities: 1. Assist the day care director and assist with the instruction of preschool children in a variety of learning centers that include dramatic play, science, mathematics, computers, games and puzzles, arts and crafts, manipulatives, language arts, cooking and nutrition, and music. Lead and monitor children in outside games, sports and free play; accompany children on field trips; store supplies and materials after activities. 2. Assist Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes as needed. 3. Greet students and parents upon arrival. Monitor student release to ensure child safety. Assist children in completing homework assigned by their classroom teacher. 4. Decorate bulletin boards and classroom areas, display children's artwork. 5. Prepare snacks for children, set-up for and assist students in eating. Wash dishes, clean spills and/or wipe down furniture and work areas; set up food for lunch. 6. Prepare bottles according to Day Care Center regulation and protocol. 7. Assist in getting students ready for rest periods; assist students in using bathroom and in cleaning up after accidents. Assist students in putting on and taking off jackets, hats, and sweaters; assist students in putting on, removing, and tying shoes. Note when additional sets of clean clothing and hygiene supplies are needed and communicate these needs according to daycare protocol and procedure. 8. Resolve conflicts between students; follow established recognition and discipline procedures. 9. Set up and operate audio-visual equipment; turn on computers, load software, format desktop, assign access codes to students, set-up student folders, and check computer and peripheral equipment for proper functioning; format, label and make back-up computer disks; attach cables to peripheral equipment and CPU and plug equipment into electrical outlets; print student reports of computer assisted instruction. 10. Perform routine clerical work using manual and automated methods, such as keyboarding forms and letters, recording attendance and absence, preparing lists and labels, preparing requisitions. Assist with the completion of childcare logs as care services are provided to the students. Laminate materials and make copies as needed. Contact parents at the request of teacher. 11. Report suspected cases of child abuse in accordance with state-mandated reporting and district policy. 12. Administer first aid and dispense medication in accordance with district policy; call parents to report student illness and injury; in instances of emergency, call emergency medical service personnel; monitor students who have known chronic medical conditions in accordance with physician instructions. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 15. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance. 16. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel. 17. Use professional information discreetly and judiciously. 18. Support and follow administrative and Board policy. 19. Represent the school system to the community in a positive and professional way. 20. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons and always exhibit excellent customer service. 21. Supervisory Responsibilities: NA Qualifications: Education/Certification: * Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above, as well as the ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is graduation from high school or GED equivalent and six months of experience working with preschool children in a learning environment or successful completion of six (6) or more units of college level education in early childhood education. * CPR/First Aid Certification as required by regulation Working Conditions: Tools/Equipment: Copier, personal computer, video equipment, peripherals, and daycare-related equipment Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress Ability to perform mathematical calculations Work with frequent interruptions Work with frequent deadlines Physical Demands: High physical stamina necessary Repetitive hand motions Prolonged use of computer Regular lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds Occasional prolonged lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds Frequent sitting Regular standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping and kneeling Occasional floor-sitting and walking briskly Steady phone interactions Environmental Factors: Frequent district-wide and statewide travel Occasional prolonged and irregular hours Some night activities Frequent working alone Experience: * 6 months working with daycare/preschool aged children, or equivalent (Required) * 1 year working with daycare/preschool aged children (Preferred) Salary: P01 Compensation Plan
