Specifically, research activities include protein expression from both bacterial and insect cell cultures, purification and reconstitution of large protein complexes using a variety of chromatography techniques, molecular biology techniques to engineer novel protein constructs for stabilizing and studying weak protein-protein interactions, and various biochemical and biophysical assays for studying protein-protein interactions and enzyme kinetics. As an integral part of these research activities, the position also involves writing lab protocols, SOPs, and manuscripts, attending seminars, communicating with collaborators via mail, email, and online meetings, and reporting results in lab meetings as well as local and national conferences. * Management (10%). In addition to research, the position involves various laboratory management responsibilities, which may include ordering supplies and chemicals, making common lab reagents, maintaining tissue cultures and equipment, maintaining laboratory safety, organization, and efficiency, supervising and training undergraduate and graduate students, and training new laboratory staff on standard laboratory procedures. * Other (5%). There may be other duties assigned by the PI as needed. Ph.D. degree in biochemistry or a related discipline.
