Position Description Advertised Job Summary Assistant Director of Health and Safety-Housing * Do you enjoy leading safety and compliance efforts that protect people in a residential campus environment? * Do you like identifying risks, investigating issues, and turning them into effective safety solutions? * Do you take pride in stepping up as a safety leader during emergencies and critical situations? The Assistant Director of Health and Safety-Housing under limited supervision will be responsible for managing and providing the overall leadership for safety, health and regulatory compliance for the Housing Department. The position will be the liaison between the University Health and Safety Department, Facilities Management Department and Housing. This position will review current processes for compliance, recommend future changes, implement adopted changes, monitor and report on overall effectiveness of programs. This position will be the key leadership position to ensure a safe healthy work environment and living environment for our occupants. This position will help with internal projects that are completed by our staff, contractors, facilities management or a combination of work forces. This position will head up on-site investigations for indoor air quality issues or other HAZMAT issues to determine root cause and remedial action. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. Primary Duties Include * Provide the leadership for investigating indoor air quality (IAQ) issues, testing, remedial program, and reporting. * Create new or modify existing processes and standard operating procedures (SOP) to develops and implement health emergency response plans to guide the department in responding to disease or emergency health issues found in residential populations, including the logistics and assets required. * Acts as Housing Department's asbestos, lead, and silica program manager. Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining asbestos, lead, and silica compliance programs. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications * American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) * Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIE) * OSHA Construction 30 hr. certification and the OSHA General Industry 30 hr. Certification * Experience with asbestos and lead program management. * Extensive knowledge of environmental and occupational health and safety standards and codes. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities * Knowledge of applicable OSHA and EPA rules, regulations and laws. * Working knowledge of test equipment used to investigate indoor air quality problems. * Knowledge of applicable safety principles, methods, standards and techniques used to correct unsafe working conditions. * Working knowledge of database, spreadsheet, word processing and communications software. * Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, executive staff, and others at all levels. * Employee must use initiative and be proactive in discharging duties. Job Duties Job Duty Provide the leadership for investigating indoor air quality (IAQ) issues, testing, remedial program, and reporting. Develops and implements a written plan for conducting baseline indoor air quality assessments for all buildings when concerns or complaints arise. Utilizing outside resources, internal staff and testing equipment investigate problems, determine sources, and ensure proper action is taken to eliminate problem. Interprets data, prepares technical reports, and issues recommendations for mitigation. Maintains records of all assessments and outcomes. Create occupational and environmental risk assessments for Housing and develops written programs, conducts compliance inspections, and assists with corrective action plans and training. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Create new or modify existing processes and standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure the Housing Department fully adheres to safety, health and regulatory agencies and University policies and procedures. Manage the required safety, health and regulatory training and other related training not required but deemed necessary to guarantee a safe and healthy work atmosphere. Conduct accident and incident investigations. Conduct compliance inspections and requisite training. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Acts as Housing Department's asbestos, lead, and silica program manager. Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining asbestos, lead, and silica compliance programs. Functions as a consultant in all asbestos, lead, and silica activities. Work with other staff, Facilities Management, and contractors to ensure all appropriate HAZMAT policies and procedures are properly adhered to. Manage specific Health and Safety compliance programs such as the University Asbestos Management, chemical inventory (CIL), hazardous waste disposal (HAZMAT), lead and accident investigation. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Develops and implements industrial hygiene programs such as, exposure assessment, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, lead, silica and ergonomics.
