Job Description for Associate Director, Center for Healthy Living Position Summary The Associate Director of the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) serves as a key clinical and administrative leader within LIU's integrated mental health and wellness services. The Associate Director supports the Director in overseeing daily operations, supervising counseling and social work interns, providing direct clinical services, managing crisis intervention, and supporting the ongoing development of a rapidly expanding center that serves diverse student populations across multiple campuses. This role requires advanced clinical training, strong supervisory skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to make independent ethical decisions in high-pressure, high-acuity situations. The Associate Director plays a critical role in maintaining the Center's clinical quality, compliance, and campus-wide mental health initiatives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Supervision * Provide clinical supervision to mental health counseling interns and social work interns (practicum and advanced internship levels). * Oversee intern onboarding, training, weekly supervision, documentation review, and semester evaluations. * Ensure compliance with NYS licensing requirements, university policies, and standards of care. * Offer clinical consultation to staff, interns, and campus partners as needed. * Serve as acting Director when the Director is away, attending leadership meetings, or covering PTO/sick leave. Clinical Services * Maintain a small ongoing clinical caseload, providing individual counseling, crisis intervention, and focused treatment. * Deliver specialized support for high-need student groups, including athletes, veterinary medicine students, nursing students, and performing arts populations. * Provide walk-in crisis assessment and develop safety/risk management plans. Crisis Response & Campus Safety * Participate in the 24/7 crisis on-call rotation for multiple LIU campuses. * Make independent, rapid ethical decisions regarding risk, hospitalization, or emergency intervention when the Director is unavailable. * Collaborate with hospitals, emergency services, residential life, faculty, athletics, and campus safety during crisis events. * Participate in behavioral and threat assessment consultations as needed. Program Management & Administration * Support the Director with strategic planning, program evaluation, and service delivery improvements. * Assist with the coordination of center operations, including scheduling, front desk oversight, and workflow support for student workers. * Maintain compliance with documentation standards, confidentiality laws, and university accreditation expectations. * Develop new initiatives to support expanding student needs (e.g., liaison roles, outreach programs, mental health campaigns). Outreach, Training, and Education * Develop and deliver workshops, trainings, and presentations for: * Student groups (including RA trainings and orientations) * Faculty and staff * Academic programs (nursing, vet med, theatre, athletics, etc.) * Represent the Center for Healthy Living at open houses, orientation events, and campus-wide wellness initiatives. * Support the development of mental health groups, peer programming, and awareness campaigns. Required Qualifications * Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or related field. * Full independent clinical licensure in New York State will be considered first (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, LMFT). * LMHC strongly preferred due to supervision requirements. * Can be an LMSW with at least +3 years of working experience with strong clinical skills and/or background, and some supervisory experience. * Minimum 3-5 years of post-graduate clinical experience * Experience providing clinical supervision to interns or early-career clinicians. * Demonstrated skill in crisis assessment, suicide risk evaluation, and safety planning. * Strong understanding of college student mental health, trauma-informed care, and high-acuity populations. * Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications * Experience in a college or university counseling center. * Experience working with athletes, performing arts students, crisis intervention, or graduate/professional programs (nursing, veterinary medicine). * Familiarity with electronic health record systems and clinical documentation standards. * Experience managing or supporting large training programs with multiple interns. * Ability to collaborate with campus stakeholders across multiple departments. Work Schedule & Conditions * Full-time, on-site position across LIU campuses as needed. * Participation in after-hours on-call rotation for mental health crises. *Flexible hours when appropriate Occasional evenings and weekends required for: * Trainings * Open houses * Orientation events * Campus workshops Compensation Salary is commensurate with experience and aligned with the significant clinical, supervisory, and administrative responsibilities required for this role.
