JOB SUMMARY The Director of Workforce Planning provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for clinical workforce strategy within the UT Southwestern Health System, aligning staffing, skill mix, and resource allocation with organizational goals. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing workforce analytics, forecasting, and planning models to ensure optimal staffing across the continuum of care. Additionally, this role provides oversight of the implementation and optimization of Health System Nursing's Virtual Care platform, ensuring its integration into care delivery and alignment with strategic initiatives. The Director partners with clinical leadership, human resources, and operational leaders to optimize clinical workforce utilization, improve staff experience, and support patient-centered outcomes. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION RequiredEducationBachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field Experience5 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare operations, workforce planning, or nursing leadership. Licenses and Certifications(RN) REGISTERED NURSE - Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas required if candidate's background is nursing. PreferredEducationMaster's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field Experience Experience with workforce analytics platforms, predictive staffing models, and/or virtual care program management. JOB DUTIES Leads clinical workforce planning strategy for the UTSW Health System, including forecasting, staffing models, productivity standards, and resource allocation aligned with system goals and patient care needs. Oversees the implementation and optimization of Virtual Care platform, ensuring operational performance, adoption, and alignment with strategic initiatives to expand access, enhance patient experience, and support clinical outcomes. Develops and implements workforce analytics dashboards and reporting tools to provide leadership with actionable insights on staffing, turnover, retention, and utilization trends. Partners with Human Resources and nursing leadership to inform recruitment, retention, succession planning, and career pathway strategies based on data-driven workforce needs. Collaborates with operational leaders to design staffing models that balance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality outcomes while adapting to evolving care delivery models. Monitors and evaluates workforce initiatives to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, organizational policies, and top of license practice. Prepares and manages budgets for assigned areas, ensuring responsible use of resources and achievement of financial goals. Engages in continuous performance improvement, leveraging evidence-based practices, benchmarking, and external research to strengthen workforce strategies. Performs other duties as assigned.
