Works under general direction and may develop guidelines in accordance with policies and procedures for lower-level employees. Interprets and assists in the development of, or develops, regulations, policies, etc. for the guidance of other employees or the public. Supervision from above the director-level classification may be received in the form of memos, staff conferences, or other periodic communications. Provides leadership in the planning and execution of programs that recruit new international undergraduate and graduate students, increase the global visibility of the university, as well as oversight of English as a Second Language, individual study abroad, and international student services and support. Leads an organizational unit which fosters collaboration amongst faculty, staff, and administrators, to realize the strategic institutional goals related to internationalization that expands international reach, visibility, and impact. Assures that actions taken are aligned with the Plan for Strategic Actions to Take Charge of Our Future. Position InformationEssential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises staff; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies.Leads and supports the university's efforts to enroll a class of new undergraduate and graduate international students, working in conjunction with Undergraduate Admissions and the College of Graduate Studies. Promotes recruiting strategies; advertises University's value via international college fairs, targeted countries' student programs and funded/sponsored programs.Provides immigration and visa issuance guidance and assistance for international students and personnel when working with a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agency; assures that the institution is in compliance with federal and state laws and pertinent regulations pertaining to international students enrollment in YSU academic programs.Convenes an international student enrollment and success working group to assure all offices and programs across campus are coordinated in the most optimal ways to attract, retain, and complete international students.Reviews recommendations by lower-level staff regarding the assigned area's policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of services; prepares recommendations to supervisor regarding the assigned area's policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of services. Utilizes reports and other information/documentation in strategic, and regular, planning of the assigned area; prepares reports, recommendations, and other information/documentation to assist in strategic planning of the assigned area.?? Supervises the day-to-day functionality and assumes general oversight of the assigned area's operations and services as related to any assigned program, initiative, or objective. Directs daily tasks related to the full scope of a department's/division's overall programs and/or services. Regularly communicates with supervisor and other staff, including student workers, as required or needed in the completion of daily tasks in support of the department's/division's overall goals and objectives. Reviews and/or monitors records of daily tasks in accordance with the department's/division's (or University's) policies and procedures and assures timely communication with supervisor, staff, and students where appropriate. Gathers data and prepares reports and other information/documentation for review?related to the department's/division's programs and/or services, or one or more assigned components thereof.Prepares for and attends events. Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in staff development activities; attends meetings, conferences, and other events. Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree; three or more years of experience with international student recruitment and support in a university setting or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree, doctoral, or juris doctorate; demonstrated experience with recruitment of students, preferably international students; demonstrated experience as a primary designated school official (PDSO); demonstrated experience with or knowledge of immigration regulations as they pertain to the international students or equivalent experiences associated with compliance at the federal, organizational, or state levels.
