Details at Location: Nasuti College of Medicine Position Status: Full-time Hours: Varied Position Number: 224145/10-1137 FLSA Status: ExemptPOSITIONSUMMARY:The Clinical Director of Simulationand Standardized Patients (SIM and SP) provides strategic leadership andoversight for all clinical and educational simulation activities across theNasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine. Working in close collaboration with theSimulation Director, SP Director, Clinical Skills faculty, and the SimulationTeam, this role ensures that standardized patient and simulation-basededucation effectively integrate clinical reasoning, procedural competency, andpatient-centered communication throughout the DO curriculum.The Clinical Director is responsiblefor maintaining the highest standards of clinical accuracy, safety, andeducational quality within the simulation program. This includes overseeing theclinical aspects of simulation design and delivery, mentoring faculty insimulation pedagogy, and fostering partnerships with clinical departments, theSchool of Health Sciences, and external health system partners.The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Simulation and Standardized Patients.DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:Academic:Ensures simulation and standardized activities align with educational objectives,osteopathic principles, and current standards of clinical practice.Provides clinical oversight for the design, implementation, and evaluation ofstandardized patient and simulation-based learning experiences.Mentors faculty in simulation and standardized patient pedagogy, including case design,standardized patient encounters, procedural training, and debriefingstrategies.Supports the development of competency-based assessment methods aligned withAACOM,COCA, and NBOME standards.Collaborates with faculty to integrate simulation into preclinical and clinical coursework,clerkships, and longitudinal curricular threads.Fosters scholarly activity related to simulation, including research, publications, andprofessional presentations.Contributes toongoing quality improvement and outcome measurement of simulation-basedteaching and assessment.Administrative:Provides strategicleadership for the development and implementation of simulation andstandardized patient activities across all curricular years.Oversees theclinical integrity, safety, and quality of simulation and SP operations,ensuring compliance with institutional, accreditation, and safety standards.Collaborates withthe Director of Simulation to coordinate scheduling, staffing, and operationalefficiency of the Simulation Center.Collaborates withthe Director of Simulation to develop and implement policies, procedures, andquality assurance processes for simulation-based education.Collaborates withthe Director of Simulation to oversee resource allocation and budgeting for SIMand SP programs.Serves as liaisonbetween the Simulation Center, Clinical Affairs, and institutional leadershipto ensure integration and alignment of SIM and SP activities.Promotes interprofessional collaboration across Duquesne University programs andcommunity partners.Service:Participates in required COM faculty developmentand training as required.Participates in student events, including theWhite Coat ceremony, service day, graduation,and orientation, as assigned.Serves on Collegeand University committees as assigned.Participates inother service activities as designated by the Assistant Dean of Simulation.Research/Scholarly:Participates in innovative scholarship andresearch related to standardized patient and simulation education incollaboration with other faculty and staff.Participates in grant-related opportunities andgrant writing to support and enhance the standardized patient, simulation, and task trainer education at the COM.Participates in standardized patient andsimulation-related training, continuing education, collaborations, and otherrelated activities to maintain competency and be aware of new ideas andopportunities for innovation.Support standardized patient andsimulation-based educational scholarship, including evaluation and research initiatives.SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES:Sim Administrator and Sim StaffCompletes otherduties as assigned.Minimumqualifications:DO or MD, orother advanced degree in a clinical specialty.Minimum of 5years of clinical experience and demonstrated expertise in standardized patientand simulation-based education.Priorleadership or administrative experience in academic medicine preferred.Stronginterpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills.Preferred qualifications:Familiaritywith AACOM, COCA, and NBOME requirements related to simulation andcompetency-based education.Proven success in designing, scaling, orleading simulation programs within an academic or clinical institution.Experience standardizing clinical assessmentthat incorporates SIM and SPsAlternately,the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experienceand training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required toperform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, thefollowing: Demonstratesstrong clinical judgment and ensures the accuracy and safety of allsimulation-based activities.Inspiresinnovation in simulation pedagogy and aligns training with curricular andaccreditation standards.Balanceslong-term program development with effective operational management of theSimulation Center.Fostersproductive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and interprofessionalpartners across health disciplines.Managespeople, processes, and resources efficiently while maintaining a focus onquality and learner outcomes.Embracesemerging technologies and evidence-based practices to enhance simulation andclinical training.Modelsintegrity, empathy, and respect consistent with the COM's mission andvalues. Supports faculty and staffdevelopment and encourages scholarly engagement in simulation-based education.Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the UniversityCommunity.
