Summary:The Tissue Recovery Technician I role is responsible for performing tissue recovery and leading a recovery team in recovery of post-mortem tissues as determined by the authorization, as well as, organizational and processor needs, to ensure safe human grafts for transplantation. Responsible for using aseptic technique to assist and/or to perform the recovery of post-mortem human tissue including bone, connective tissue, skin, heart for heart valves, and/or veins to ensure safe grafts for transplantation. Tissue recovered may be for the purpose of transplant, research, and education.Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:Responds promptly and reports to tissue donor cases, once assigned and as directed by the recovery team leaderPerforms duties as assigned from the recovery team lead during each case in compliance with STA's policies and proceduresPerforms the recovery of tissue, circulates, and assists the team as needed during the casePerforms duties as assigned in compliance with STA's policies and procedures, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. Assists in preparing surgical site and donor for recovering and performing post-donation activities, as appropriatePerforms quality control practices as defined by standard operating proceduresDisplays respect for the donor and donor family at all times, maintains donor confidentiality and communicates clearly to other agencies and departments as neededAttends departmental meetings and completes required training to ensure compliance and keeps abreast of industry, organizational, and departmental changesMaintains confidentiality of donor information in accordance with STA policiesVerifies the authorization and Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI), ensuring compliance with AATB and Processor requirementsPerforms other duties as assignedCompliance:OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has potential for occupational exposureThe incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policyEducation, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:Associates degree in a life scienceCertification in surgical technology/medical/paramedical professional is preferred to perform all technical functions of the position / equivalent work-related experienceKnowledge of aseptic technique, Human Anatomy and Physiology; disease processes, surgical instrumentation and maintenanceQualifications and Skills:Excellent oral, written, and documentation skillsMust have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publiclySelf-motivated and possess the ability to meet the requirements of a demanding call schedule requiredAbility to meet assigned deadlinesAbility to work both independently and as part of a team requiredAbility to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workloadAbility to be flexible in a dynamic work environmentAbility to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilitiesCurrent Driver's license requiredPhysical Environment / Working Conditions:Performs tissue recoveries in hospital morgues, hospital operating rooms, coroner offices, autopsy suites, and funeral homes/mortuaries. Perform office duties in a normal office environment. Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs. Travel in light and commercial aircraft, or automobile is required in order to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position.
