Classification Title Job Title Student Success Coach FLSA Exempt Location Main Campus Position Length Full-Time Position Summary Information Job Summary Student success coach is responsible for providing intrusive advising in academic and career goals for students as they transition into college life. Success coaches will individualize students' success through a case management approach for a specialized population. This position will coordinate and facilitate the provision of resources to empower students to stay in school and achieve success. The Student Success Coach will utilize all forms of communication to encourage students, to direct them to appropriate resources, to walk them through critical processes, and to track their outcomes. This position will contribute to the college's outreach efforts by assisting reengaging individuals who stopped out of school and help them to return and finish their degree. The position will contribute to student retention and completion strategies within the assigned caseload. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Student success coach will serve as the specialized advisor for a particular caseload and assist new and current students with placement, registration, graduation, and transfer opportunities as needed in person, over the phone, or online. * Student success coach will assist new and returning students through financial aid application procedures. Including assisting them in uploading missing documents through student information systems. * Counsel students in the general student population and special populations, including Veterans, academically at risk, Transfer, Bachelors, online students, Athletes, Grant initiative cohorts, and International Students. Assist with program planning, course selection, schedule changes, transferability, and course withdrawals, and referral services. * Prepare and deliver updated reports on the special population caseload to internal student services administration and external stakeholders as per MOU agreements on file. Utilize the CRM system to increase persistence of students. * Solve issues related to the enrollment process, review student's degree audits. Assist students with identifying college and community resources that will assist them with their career goals. * Collaborate with faculty throughout the student's enrollment to ensure all courses a student takes are in the students' degree plan and that the student is advancing towards graduation at an appropriate pace. This includes utilizing the College's retention CRM system and keeping detailed and appropriate advising notes regarding student progression updates. * Develop and facilitate workshops and presentations using PowerPoint and other media solutions for a variety of student populations. * Collaborate with faculty to present to students in preparation for registration cycles. * Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation relating to Admissions, Records, Advising, Testing and Financial Aid. * Assist in course equivalency from previous high schools, colleges and universities. * Compute and check grade point averages, verify class standing, and reviews individual student degree plans to insure completeness and accuracy. Correspond with officials of high schools and institutions of higher education concerning course credit and content comparability. * Evaluate residency status and assign the appropriate residency classification. * Provide information regarding residency to students, staff and the College community. * Ensure compliance with SEVIS and other applicable immigration regulations. * Verify/certify reports, files, enrollment status, records, and applications within FERPA guidelines and assist in preparation of semester grade transcripts, degree plans, diplomas and certificates. Perform add/drops, withdrawals and grade changes as required. * Assist with preparation and production of new student orientation and College commencement exercises. * Assess student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences to guide students in the design and implementation of a successful academic and career plan. * Provide guidance in course selection in keeping with the student's career plans and academic status. * Work closely with college faculty to monitor academic progress of students. * Maintain current knowledge of all degree and certificate programs. * Attend the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite. * Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events. * Complete duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies and guidelines. * Use interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers. * Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College. * Support the values and institutional goals as defined in the College's Strategic Plan. * Participate in the development of outcomes, monitor assessment of those appropriate outcomes, and assist in the development of plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes. * Participate in the process for systematic review and evaluation per the institutional effectiveness model adopted by the College. * Promote positive morale and teamwork within the department and provides exceptional customer service to students, faculty and community. * Serve on committees as appropriate and as appointed by supervisor. * Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education and experience required. * Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with one (1) year of direct experience working in the recruitment, admissions, advising, records, outreach or related field in a college or university setting OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college with three (3) years of direct experience recruitment, admissions, advising, records, outreach or related field in a college or university setting. * Experience working effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus.
