TRS is seeking an innovative and experienced Pharmacy Consultant to help drive pharmacy and medical drug strategies for one of the largest public-sector health plans in Texas. The ideal candidate is a licensed pharmacist with strong pharmacy benefit management expertise who can translate complex clinical and financial data into actionable insights that improve health outcomes and manage drug costs. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Pharmacy strategy & performance * Identifies clinical trend drivers and cost‑saving opportunities across both pharmacy and medical drug spend to guide benefit and clinical program decisions and deliver clear, actionable recommendations. * Leads and participates in recurring vendor meetings relating to clinical pharmacy initiatives, including comprehensive vendor reviews, independent strategy/performance assessments, and ongoing operational and strategic work sessions. * Develops and executes customized strategic plans to achieve targeted short‑ and long‑term goals. * Designs, tailors, and implements evidence‑based clinical programs (e.g., prior authorization, formulary management, utilization management). * Uses and interprets large claims data sets and clinical data, as well as PBM and other vendor program indicators/reports to identify cost savings or clinical improvement opportunities and monitor program performance. * Stays current on regulatory changes, drug pricing updates, compendia updates, and market trends; translate impact and recommended actions to drive internal decision-making. Cross-Functional Support * Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and collaborate across actuarial, finance, and operations to meet health plan goals. * Acts as a liaison relating to clinical pharmacy initiatives between internal teams and vendors, ensuring alignment, clear communication, and timely execution. * Leads the identification and development of initiatives that reduce health plan drug costs while enhancing clinical outcomes and member experience. Performs related work as assigned. WHAT YOU WILL BRING: Required Education * Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited college or university. Required Experience * Five (5) years of directly related, progressively responsible experience Pharmacy Benefit Management, Pharmacy Consulting, Health Plan Administration, or closely related experience. Required Registration, Certification, Licensure * Active pharmacist license in good standing. Preferred Qualifications * Experience leading or contributing to pharmacy and therapeutics presentations, DUR, utilization management, formulary management, or specialty drug strategies. * Experience querying large claims data sets using SQL and data visualization tools. * Experience with developing, implementing, and monitoring innovative strategies that produces efficiencies for health plan or payers * Experience in specialty pharmacy operations. Knowledge of * Healthcare infrastructure to provide efficiencies for health plan management (member experience, provider experience, pharmacy dispensing practices, and PBM administrative duties). * Healthcare payer or PBM strategic decision‑making Skill in * Collaborating with cross‑functional partners (actuarial, finance, operations). Ability to * Analyze clinical and financial considerations for different treatments across pharmacy and medical benefit. * Analyze drug pricing benchmarks and pharmacy reimbursement frameworks. * Communicate and present to cross functional teams. * Successfully implement innovative solutions or ideas.
