Medical Physicist - Radiation Oncology Summa Health - Akron City Campus Full-Time / 40 Hours / Days Hybrid Join our Radiation Oncology team as a Medical Physicist and play a vital role in delivering precise, high-quality cancer care. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe delivery of advanced radiation therapies. Summary: Under direction of the Director of Medical Physics and Medical Director of Radiation Oncology provides clinical physics services and technical support to radiation oncology team that includes all aspects of external beam therapy, brachytherapy, special procedures, education of staff and compliance with all pertinent standards required by regulatory and accreditation bodies. Formal Education Required: a. Master's Degree in the field of Medical Physics, PhD is preferred. b. Current Board Certification by American Board of Radiology or Equivalent c. Certified Radiation Expert (CRE) in the State of Ohio is preferred. Experience & Training Required: a. Five (5) years of experience in medical physics preferably in a large program delivering different treatment modalities. b. Clinical and research experience associated with medical physics during the educational process is preferred. Essential Functions: 1)Provide radiation oncology physics services and coverage at all practice sites as needed, for all External beam (3D/IMRT/VMAT/SRS/SBRT/IGRT) and Brachytherapy procedures (HDR/LDR) and Prostate Seed Implant (PSI) procedures. 2)Provide on-site and on-demand support and consultancy to radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists and radiation therapists in areas of, were required and appropriate, patient simulation, special physics, image and dose fusion, treatment planning, plan evaluation and quality assurance and treatment delivery support. 3)Participate and help oversee in the management of the radiation oncology physics program, including the technical direction of physicists and medical dosimetrists, radiation therapy, staff scheduling, review of billing for accuracy and procurement of supplies. 4)Ensure on-time quality assurance (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly) and maintenance of radiation treatment equipment (s) and planning systems per AAPM standards. 5)Implement physics and radiation quality management programs and the review and approval of procedures followed by radiation therapy staff. 6)Participate consistently in morning huddle and chart rounds to ensure appropriate clinical care of patient as it relates to clinical physics, dosimetry and radiation oncology services. 7)Provide recommendations for the specification, selection, and acceptance testing and commissioning of radiation-producing machines, treatment-planning system and accessories. 8)Work closely with Director of Medical Physics and radiation oncology IT analyst to ensure completeness of required hardware/software upgrades to maintain clinical treatment readiness. 9)Implement radiation safety training and personnel radiation monitoring programs. 10)Help develop and participate in radiation oncology, radiation safety and monitoring policies, procedures and training manuals. Provide support and education to implement those policies. 11)Participate in routine and annual radiation training of staff and competency evaluations. 12)Help Director of Medical Physics and RSO to oversee registration of all ionizing radiation equipment and radioactive material licenses for all practices within the state 13)Actively participate and provide support during State and Federal Surveys and accreditation. 14)Possess skills in leading and mentoring a team in multiple locations and multiple modalities. 15)Advance utilization of radiation oncology resources including Varian, ELEKA linear accelerators, Nucletron HDR, Canon CT Sim, RayStation, Pinnacle, I-plan and On-Centra treatment planning systems, Mosaiq R&V system, MIM, Radcalc and DoseLab softwares and patient dose monitoring systems to elevate radiation oncology core competencies and quality. 16)Initiate and manage clinical development projects to meet organizational goals in time. 17)Work collaboratively with Director of Medical Physics, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and Radiation Oncologists and execute duties and responsibilities as assigned. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications: a. Possesses knowledge and experience in treatment machines and planning computer systems. b. Essential calculation and word processing skills. c. Requires travel between main campus and off sites. d. Available for evening or weekend physics support. e. Ability to effectively communicate with staff members, and interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity Level of Physical Demands: a.
