Job Description

To provide treatment for the specified children, adolescents, and their parents/guardians under therapist care. Treatment is provided by group therapy, individual sessions, family sessions, family contact, and by legal contact, and school contact when necessary. The direction of treatment and the extent of the contacts will be determined by the treatment team. Therapist is to use their clinical individuality but must work effectively with entire team. Required Knowledge & Skills Education: Master's Degree plus at least one year of training in a specialty resulting in certification Experience: No prior work experience required Licenses and Certifications * HEALTHCARE PROVIDER (CPR) * SAFE CRISIS INTERVENTION FOR PATIENTS AND PROFESSIONALS Qualifications * Masters Degree in psychology or related field. * College level of reading and comprehension, writing and mathematical skills. * Basic knowledge of and skills applying principles of abnormal psychology and mental health problems. * Familiarity with psychological, sociological and medical terminology's. * Skills in analyzing and evaluating information, problem solving skills, excellent oral communication skills, and legible handwriting. * Ability to concentrate on tasks and meet deadlines. * Ability to confidentially maintain all information. * Basic data entry skill preferred; including experience using a computer. * Organization and time management skills. * Ability to deal with the public and individuals within the organization. * Crisis management skills, some persuasive skills with prospective patients and family members who demonstrate denial or resistance to treatment, within context of appropriate clinical interventions. Functions Area of Responsibilities * PROVISION OF CARE: Facilitates family and individual therapy with patient's and patient's family. Family therapist may also be asked to provide psycho-educational training both individually and in individual/multi-family groups to family members and patients. Facilitates group therapy and develops programming and therapeutic treatment for identified patients in the absence of the primary therapist. May perform home-visits with patients and their families to conduct family or individual sessions. May attend community staffing meetings on patients either at schools, DJJ, DFACS, or other sites. Assists Family and Community Coordinator and Primary therapist with the ongoing communication between the program and the patient's family and community agency representatives. Assesses psychosocial needs and completes assessment as indicated including recommendations for treatment plan and discharge planning. Schedules admission H&P with program physician and family members. Maintains a waiting list for admissions and contacts family members of waiting list patients weekly. Obtain release of information and contacts all possible agencies/persons who currently or previously provided direct services to the patient. Inform them of the patient's presence in the program and gather any relevant information needed for continuity of care. Participates in team planning regarding psychosocial adjustment and continuity of care needs. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with patients, physicians, allied health professionals, and all referral sources. Works cooperatively with Program Manager in program development. * DOCUMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE MEDICAL RECORD: Document all family contact in the medical record in a timely manner. Facilitate and document post-treatment satisfaction surveys and follow-up. Prepares timely documentation for medical record and maintains current case notes. Completes appropriate documentation - treatment plans, progress notes, weekly updates and group notes in specified time limits. Documents calls and related information on designated forms. Participates in discharge planning and referral contacts, and verifies follow through and documentation of discharge plans. Checks and audits charts for documentation and/or charge errors. Completes appropriate documentation-treatment plans, progress notes and group notes in specified time limits. Participates in treatment team meetings. Documents calls and related information on designated forms. Maintains patient's chart/record and assures documentation meets hospital and Joint Commission Standards. Communicates treatment issues, family issues, individual issues, and medications concerns to the staff nurse and/or physician daily. Participates in discharge planning and referral contacts, and verifies follow through and documentation of discharge plans. Responsible for the ongoing identification of patient needs for discharge and seeking out community resources for discharge plans for patients. * COMMUNICATION / TEAM WORK / CONDUCT: Organize and document all family contacts regarding patient progress, program scheduling, family counseling, and family groups. Communicate vital information gathered about patients to primary therapists, program administrators, and PHP coordinator. Communicates treatment issues and medication concerns to the staff nurse and/or physician daily. Participates in treatment teams with other staff persons and helps write treatment plan reviews in conjunction with treatment team members. Attends staff meetings as needed each week. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and staff of other departments. Performs other duties needed to maintain safe and therapeutic clinical environment. Demonstrates conduct in keeping with Tanner Health Systems ethical standards. Errors may be serious and many involve injury to patient, staff or self. Works constantly with confidential information and must constantly make decisions concerning true emotional status of patients, i.e., ability to harm self/others. Requires frequent contact with many others to do job. Involves daily interactions with psychiatrist nurses, social services, occupational therapist and patient to provide appropriate services and programs to patient. Will also involve contact with family and outside agencies for patient care on a daily basis. * STANDARDS / POLICY AND PROCEDURE: Maintains Tanner Medical Center policies on confidentiality. Demonstrates competency in patient care according to the age of the patient and population served. Stays abreast of organization's programs and services. Supports organization's customer service philosophy. Responsible for completion of required facility and departmental education under the direction of the department manager. Complies with other applicable department and/or organization standards and policies. Complies with facility safety, infection control and security program. Supports facility internal and external customer service standards. Attendance of in-service programs as mandated per policy. * PARTICIPATION IN THE GENERAL OPERATION OF DEPARTMENT: conscientious manner. Assist in maintaining a clean and neat physical environment on the unit, including cleaning kitchens, stocking kitchen with supplies, cleaning and maintaining group rooms, in compliance with infection prevention standards. Seeks and identifies opportunities to improve care, patient flow or utilization of resources. Participates in process improvement initiatives for the department and facility as directed. Participates in the orientation and supervision of new employees and students. Assist in orienting new staff to PHP including rules of PHP and interaction with patients. Assist marketing in promoting for PHP by representing TBHS at school career days and other marketing venues. As family therapist, the clinician is expected to take a leadership role with other non-licensed members of the work team. This includes, but is not limited to, discussing and directing patient's treatment and progress with other members of the team working with that individual and providing insight, guidance, ideas and/or suggestions to team members working directly (or indirectly) with the patients assigned to the family therapist. The clinician will also be responsible for providing supervision to undergraduate and graduate interns and provide feedback for them and their faculty supervisors.
