Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures. Works with students during their clinical rotation. Obtains complete clinical history and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment when applicable. Assists other technologists in all modalities as needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical orders prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient's privacy and comfort. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Uses critical thinking skills and asks clarifying questions. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands, demonstrates, and documents preprocedural verification when appropriate. Preps the patient for procedures and demonstrates sterile technique if applicable. Maintains competency with venipuncture, where applicable. Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to minimize radiation dose while maintaining image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or service provider. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment following infection control policy. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures patient's questions and concerns are addressed before procedures. Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures to patients. Documentation must be concise, legible, and include precise terminology. Reads emails each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and education requirements. Produces high-quality images and checks equipment for proper calibration. Sends all studies to imaging records system; prints CDs as necessary. Checks for prior exams to ensure they are loaded and properly labeled before sending to the imaging records system. Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Transports patients, positions them, and assists them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day of service. Applies shielding and immobilization devices as needed. Assists others and performs routine clerical duties to ensure continuity and quality of services. Keeps supervisor informed about all responsibilities and problems. Maintains productivity rates in line with co-workers. Maintains standards set by regulatory agencies. Transports/retrieves images using the imaging records system. Takes call when necessary and performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
