If that sounds like an environment in which you will thrive, Carpenter Co. could be a great fit for you!Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Lab Technician in the Physical Testing group at our Reinhart Technical Center (RTC) location in Richmond, Virginia. This Lab Technician is responsible for testing in the RTC Bedding, Physical Testing, and Flammability Testing areas under the direction of Material Testing Laboratory Supervisor and Material Testing Manager. The Lab Technician will also be responsible for preparing specimens for conditioning and testing, monitoring and operating test equipment and creating and issuing data reports.Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. As the Lab Technician you will be responsible for gathering data and summarizing it in an organized format for review by their manager.Your additional responsibilities as the Lab Technician will include:Perform testing of slab, bonded, and molded polyurethane cellular products such as but not limited tom the tests listed in ASTM D3574-11, ISO 1798 etc.Move weights (up to 45 lbs.) associated with static fatigue testsDevelop proficiency in the operation of the equipment and software used to measure compression and tensile strength of test specimensMaintain organized files and manage project timelinesMonitor and operate environmental chambers and ovens used to age samplesPrepare sample with a die-cut press and/or table band saw according to the appropriate test standard with a full working knowledge of the aforementioned cutting equipment and associated personal protective equipment (PPE).Operate dynamic fatigue test equipmentRecord test results and update LIMS software as appropriateCreate and issue data reports to the requesting group or individual at the RTC using MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, and Zwick TestXpert softwareAssist in other Material Testing areas and with the Polymer Products group members on development and testing activities when time permitsMaintain a tidy and organized workspaceSkills / RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent required1+ year laboratory experience preferredBasic understanding of standard laboratory procedures and safety practicesMicrosoft Office products proficiencyClear oral and written communication skillsStrong attention to detailOrganizational SupportAttendance/PunctualityDependabilityProfessionalismSafety and SecurityExcellent Comprehensive Benefit PlanWe also have 401K, Profit Sharing and a great Benefit Package including Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and paid time off (Vacation and Holidays).Important NotesCarpenter Co. is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or other legally protected characteristic.Carpenter Co. conducts pre-employment drug testing on all applicants that receive and accept a written offer of employment.
