DescriptionJob Summary: The Indy Art Center promotes life-long learning through hands-on art classes and activities. The Art Center's 2026 Summer Art Camp focuses on the art-making process to promote children's curiosity, problem solving, independence and confidence and serves a wide variety of ages and skill levels. Camp Assistants help the Camp Instructors and Director's in all aspects of operating the Art Center's Summer youth camps, including: welcoming and checking in campers, interacting with and helping campers with their projects, setting up and cleaning up art materials, and assisting instructors in cleaning the studio and enforcing all safety guidelines. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth, a general knowledge of various art techniques and materials, be dependable, and has a positive friendly attitude. All camp staff will promote and nurture the education of students.Essential Job Functions:Lead Camp Activities and supervise during creative play, lunch, snack breaks, check-in, and check-out times.Assist Camp Staff and Instructors during the duration of the camp programWelcoming and checking in campersInteracting with and helping campers with their projectsSetting up and cleaning up materialsAssist in preparation of art examples as necessaryAssist in tailoring modifications to courses to support student experience and ability.Use time efficiently and be willing to assist with various camp related tasks as needed.Assist Camp Instructor in teaching students to utilize best practices Implement lessons through a variety of techniques including, but not limited to, discussions, projects, exhibits, visual aids, and critiqueMaintain a safe, secure and healthy educational environment by establishing classroom behavior expectations with consistent enforcement, communicating safety information and procedures to students, and following all Art Center policies and proceduresManage materials effectively and sustainably Ensure adequate and appropriate materials, supplies, tools and equipment expectations to encourage students' full participationHelp clean equipment and studio space, and store all materials appropriatelyHelp prepare and gather materials for Camps as neededBe an Engaged Team memberAttend meetings and Camp TrainingRespond to emails and requests in a timely mannerMaintain positive interactions in promotion and retention of Art Center programs and activitiesAdditional Education/Knowledge/Skills Requirements:Experience working with youth and/or teens aged 4-18.Art experienceHighschool graduate and must be 18 or older requiredPhysical Requirements and Working ConditionsAssistants are required to travel to and from the Indy Art Center.Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 25 lbs.Perform physical tasks related to the medium they are teaching.Assistants must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.Summer Camp Dates are outlined below:Camp Dates 2026 WeekStart dateend date 16/86/12 2*6/156/18*Short 4 day week in observance of Juneteenth36/226/26 47/67/10 57/137/17 67/207/24 77/277/31Additional Information:Background check required prior to employment.
