Pharmacy ManagerJOB SUMMARYThe Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the smooth and successful operation of the pharmacy department and the maintenance of all business-related functions at his/her respective center. He/She is responsible to compound and/or dispense commercially available prescribed drugs and other pharmaceutical items for patient care by performing all duties in both the adjudication and production work environments while providing direct supervision of Assistant Pharmacy Managers, Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Services Representatives, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Support Specialists performing pharmacy related duties.PRIMARY FUNCTIONSMaintain all operations of the pharmacy departmentDispense and verify prescriptions as requiredFollow all medication guidelines as well as policies and procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging, maintaining loss prevention procedures, and avoiding diversion for all inventory including controlled medicationsEnsure that pharmacy policies as well as federal and state laws and regulations in all prescription related issues, including HIPAA, SOP, QA, and CQI, are followedReview and verify prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy, appropriateness, and determine formulas and ingredients neededCompounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, if applicableProvide counseling on both prescription medications/items and over the counter medications/items per company policy and as required by state and federal lawEnsure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by state, federal, and organizational guidelines are followedPerforms trouble shooting functions for third party discrepancies and other prescription filling issuesAnswer the telephone and assist at the front counter to maintain the workflow of the pharmacy. Manage and supervise pharmacy staff including: any staff pharmacists and pharmacy techniciansResponsible for ensuring that all required pharmacy, pharmacist, and pharmacy technician licenses/certifications/registrations are current and valid as required by state, federal and pharmacy guidelines.Maintain contact with providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes and promote effective drug therapy.Stay current with new and changing drug therapies and usesResponsible for the proper maintenance of pharmacy drug inventoriesResponsible for the proper storage of all pharmacy inventoryDirects pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.Maintains a clean, neat and orderly pharmacy department at all timesAnswers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals as neededActively engages patients and clients with respect to customer service programs offered by the pharmacy in an effort to grow pharmacy business and volume of prescriptions dispensedActively engages patients and clients with respect to program integrations offered by the pharmacyMaintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugsEnters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventoryMaintains awareness of third party Rx systems and resolves third party rejection problems promptly, and resubmits rejected claims for payment on a timely basisResolves and reports prescription errors immediately and adheres to company policy regarding medication incidents and continuous quality improvementMaintains awareness of loss prevention controls and procedures to identify and minimize profit loss.Develop and maintain a good working relationship with physicians and other health care professionals in order to better assist the patients Delivers accurate reports and assignments on timeComplete all assigned projects and tasks accurately and on time Responsible for the success of any department inspectionsMust have reliable transportation and be able to travel to and staff the pharmacy at other health center locations when necessaryParticipate in events outside of normal course of business as assigned Ability to work any work schedule as assigned by the organization which may include evening and/or weekend hoursMust be able to provide support outside of regular business hours as required, including the ability to be on call as neededProvide department access outside of regular scheduled hours when needed in regards to the pharmacy department alarm system as well as maintenance that needs to be performed within the departmentAny other duties may be assigned (may include technician-related duties depending on available staff)EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited college of pharmacy: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. degree required.Current Florida Pharmacist License, active and in good standing, with a current Immunization Certification.7 years of experience in a retail type community pharmacy (management experience required)BLS CPR Certification required and maintained currentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESMust have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate in an efficient, professional, and friendly manner. Ability to work under pressure and at a fast paceAbility to multi-taskCritical thinking skillsProblem solving skills Efficient and proficient in all computer applications under which work is assigned including email, Adobe®, Microsoft Office® programs, electronic medical records systems, pharmacy prescription processing software(s), and other programs as assignedAbility to work well with peopleADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONSBilingual a plus RELATIONSHIP REPORTINGReports to the Director of PharmacyPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to stand and or walk for extended periods of timeAbility to view a computer screen for extended periods of timeAbility to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions for extended periods of timeAbility to perform lifting and bending motionsAbility to use a stepladderAbility to lift up to 25 pounds
