General Statement of Duties The coordinator of a specialty center program is an educational visionary who welcomes the challenge of creating an engaging and rigorous curriculum that makes connection to important concepts and ideas within and across disciplines. The coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, alignment, coordination, and delivery in the development and improvement of the curriculum program for the school division. The coordinator ensures that resources are available for teacher and student use and facilitates the necessary staff development for implementation of the assigned instructional program. The coordinator develops and implements strategic recruitment initiatives to attract and enroll diverse and qualified students, ensuring alignment with the center's mission and goals. This assignment is an 239 Days/11 month teaching contract (site dependent) that will provide leadership and support for the specified center location. Essential Duties PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds. SPECIALTY CENTER COORDINATOR DUTIES Plan, grade, and teach specialty center students on a daily basis. Fulfill all regular duties and responsibilities in accordance with a teacher contract assignment. Provide guidance in the selection of textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment for the assigned program. Develop short and long-term goals for the assigned program. Support and work collaboratively with principals and teaching staff to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the division. Plan and coordinate teacher training programs and conferences related to new classroom procedures, instructional materials, equipment and teaching aids. Plan and coordinate professional development activities for building-level administrators, instructional staff and trainers for division-wide initiatives, new classroom procedures, instructional materials, equipment and teaching aids. Coordinate and supervise curriculum aligned capstone projects. Review and analyze assessment data for the assigned program. Prepare and monitor the program's budget. Work with the administration and school counseling on the scheduling of all programs and services. Work collaboratively with team members and administration of assigned schools to develop, update, and implement annual school plans. Update and maintain the assigned program's website. Direct and maintain the day-to-day operation of the specialty center. Manage the application and selection process of specialty center students. Counsel specialty center students and carry out probationary contracts as appropriate. Investigate grants to secure additional funding for the specialty center. Assist in the formation of the specialty center handbook and other pertinent documents. Coordinate and supervise work-based learning experiences for students. Coordinate summer programs and activities for Center students. Plan and participate in local and site-based field trips. Plan and participate in out-of-town, overnight field trips. Communicate the specialty center's vision, mission, and goals to all stakeholders. Promote the specialty center programs to prospective students, parents, universities, potential employers, and the community. Serves as liaison between the Center and universities, local and state agencies, business organizations, and community service organizations. Work collaboratively with staff members of Teaching and Learning, Student Support and Wellness, Workforce and Career Development, and other departments, as assigned. Actively participate in summer professional development to remain abreast of industry trends. Demonstrate a general understanding of the current technologies available today and an ability to articulate cybersecurity concepts at a fundamental level with a personal capacity to build cybersecurity skills and understanding to lead the Center going forward. Obtain and/or maintain content related industry credentials. INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES Monitor the development and maintenance of instructional materials including but not limited to curriculum guides, parent/student documents, assessment instruments, and report cards. Serve as teacher of record for 50% of a standard teaching load in a content area aligned with the specified specialty center. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. On a regular and consistent basis, meets and instructs assigned classes (not to exceed three sections) in the locations and at the times designated. Prepare for classes assigned (not to exceed three sections) and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior. Establish learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, requirements of HCPS aligned curriculum, and knowledge of human growth and development. Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives. Take all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; administer first aid as needed. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. Maintain basic and supplementary list of instructional materials. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Perform related work, as required. Minimum Qualifications The ideal candidate must have: Valid teaching license with an endorsement in biology Preferred Five (5) years of teaching experience .Three (3) years of training and experience as a teacher leader.Previous experience in roles that contribute to or support the healthcare field.Strong analytical skills to evaluate information, solve problems, and choose optimal solutions.Proven ability to guide and train teachers in effective instructional techniques and strategies.Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for developing and presenting ideas.Ability to work collegially with school administrators, teachers, staff, and the general public. Additionally, the candidate should also be able demonstrate prior leadership experience and the personal qualities necessary to work effectively with students, educators, parents, civic organizations, and the broader community. A combination of relevant experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will also be considered. Additional Information This is a 239 day/11 month teaching assignment. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year with a July 20, 2026 contractual start date. Minimum annual starting salary based on 2025-26 SY Rates*: $66,240 Bachelors, $69,419 Masters, *The annual salary stated in this posting is based on the 2025-2026 adopted financial plan. The annual salary for the coming school year will be determined once the 2026-2027 school year financial plan is approved and adopted in the Spring of 2026.
