Job DescriptionJob Title/Position: Director of NursingLocation: Oregon (Portland Metro)Reports To: Executive DirectorPosition SummaryThe Director of Nursing (DON) provides leadership and oversight for all hospice clinical operations. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and strong team performance while balancing operational and financial outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both clinical expertise and the ability to lead, develop, and hold teams accountable in a fast-paced hospice environment.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Operational Leadership Lead day-to-day clinical operations, including patient assignments, productivity, and census managementProvide guidance and support in complex patient care situationsMonitor key metrics such as census, acuity, visit utilization, and staffing needsEnsure alignment between clinical operations and organizational goalsMaintain visibility with field staff and support teams as neededStaff Leadership & Accountability Lead hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of clinical staffHold leaders and staff accountable for performance, attendance, and productivityAddress performance concerns proactively, including corrective action when necessaryDevelop and mentor clinical supervisors and emerging leadersFoster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvementQuality, Compliance & Clinical ExcellenceEnsure all clinical documentation is accurate, timely, and audit-readyMaintain compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation and regulatory standardsLead QAPI initiatives including quality metrics, incidents, and infection controlPrepare for surveys, audits, and accreditation reviewsOversee incident investigations and corrective actionsOperational & Financial ManagementMonitor staffing utilization, overtime, and productivity expectationsPartner with leadership on clinical budget planningEnsure appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and medicationsCommunication & Community EngagementPromote clear, professional communication across teamsBuild relationships with referral sources including hospitals and SNFsCollaborate cross-functionally to ensure continuity of careEmergency ManagementEnsure staff safety and coordination during emergenciesLead communication with internal teams and external agenciesMaintain infection control and safety standards during emergenciesRole Expectations (Non-Negotiables)This is not a desk-only role-active involvement in clinical operations is expectedMust be comfortable making independent decisions related to staffing and patient careAccountable for team performance, documentation quality, and regulatory outcomesMust be able to lead in a dynamic environment with changing census and patient needsQualificationsActive Oregon RN license in good standing7+ years of clinical experience3+ years in a leadership role (hospice preferred)Experience in hospice, home health, SNF, or hospital settingsStrong leadership and communication skillsKnowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirementsValid driver's license and reliable transportationCompensationCompetitive salary based on experiencePerformance-based bonus opportunityFull benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, and 401(k)
