Deputy Director of Code EnforcementFull-Time | Exempt | 35 Hours/WeekHours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM(Occasional evening meetings required)Make an Impact Through Leadership, Service, and Smart RegulationThe Township is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Director of Code Enforcement to provide senior-level leadership within our Codes Department. This is a key management role for a professional who thrives in guiding teams, improving processes, and ensuring consistent, defensible enforcement of codes that protect the safety and quality of life of our community.Reporting to the Director of Community Development, the Deputy Director serves as a trusted partner in departmental leadership, overseeing daily operations while helping shape strategy, staff development, and service excellence.Why This Role Is CompellingLeadership with Purpose: Directly influence how codes are interpreted, enforced, and delivered to the community.Team Development: Mentor and support inspectors, plan reviewers, and administrative staff.Operational Impact: Improve workflows, timelines, and customer service across permitting and inspections.Professional Respect: Represent the Township in hearings, appeals, and compliance matters with authority and professionalism.Work-Life Balance: 35-hour workweek with predictable hours and meaningful public service.What You'll DoAs Deputy Director, you will:Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of Codes Department personnelEnsure consistent enforcement of the PA UCC, ICC codes, and Township ordinances, and perform inspections as neededGuide staff through complex inspections, interpretations, and sensitive enforcement casesOversee permit issuance, inspections, plan reviews, and certificates of use & occupancyReview and manage escalated complaints and compliance casesRepresent the Township at hearings, appeals, and court proceedings as neededEvaluate and improve department operations, including:Permit intake and review timelinesInspection schedulingCase management processesImplement standard operating procedures and service-level expectationsCoordinate with Public Works, Planning/Zoning, consultants, and external agenciesSupport the Director with consultant and contractor oversightMaintain accurate records and documentation across all department activitiesWhat We're Looking ForRequired Experience & Skills5-7 years of progressive experience in code enforcement, construction, or a related municipal fieldDemonstrated supervisory or management experience, including performance management and staff developmentStrong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skillsAbility to interpret and apply regulations in a consistent, legally defensible mannerExcellent communication skills for interaction with:StaffResidentsElected officialsExternal stakeholdersComfort handling multiple priorities, interruptions, and challenging situationsProficiency with permitting and inspection software systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Traisr)Valid driver's licenseAn equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.EducationBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferredCertificationsICC - Property MaintenanceICC & PA UCC Residential Certifications in:BuildingPlumbingMechanicalEnergyCandidates may obtain required certifications within a Township-established timeframe based on operational needs.Working ConditionsField and office work requiredAbility to work in adverse weather or site conditionsAbility to manage hostile or confrontational situations professionallyJoin UsThis is a rare opportunity for a seasoned code enforcement professional looking to step into a true leadership role-one that combines technical knowledge, people management, and public service.
