Position DetailsPosition Information Job Title Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in School of Nursing & Health Innovations Department SONHI Tenure Track Faculty Division Provost Terms and Hours Full Time Faculty on a 9-month academic year assignment; with availability to teach during the summer for additional compensation. Appointment as Director of Graduate Programs begins with a 3-year renewable term and includes summer duties. Salary Range Annual salaries for the 2026-2027 academic year have not yet been determined. The 2025-2026 annual salary for a first-year associate professor in the School of Nursing & Health Innovations is $101,260. Successful candidates will be DNP-Family Nurse Practitioners who are prepared to contribute to the University's DNP-FNP graduate program and additional programs as they are developed.The University of Portland is a primarily undergraduate institution comprising four professional schools and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), which houses our strong liberal arts Core Curriculum, required of all students. The SONHI implements state of the art simulation in ambulatory, acute, and telemedicine facilities for both graduate and undergraduate students.The DNP-Family Nurse Practitioner programfocuses on integrative health and prepares graduates to: practice independently in a variety of primary care health environments, translate best evidence into practice, employ a population focus, incorporate an integrative and/or palliative health care perspective, and collaborate with multiple disciplines with the goal of providing effective, comprehensive health care; demonstrate leadership in macro and micro health care system change and personal practice improvement; and proactively strive for social justice, actively address health disparities and function as culturally competent practitioners who relate effectively with diverse and underserved individuals, families, and populations.Tenure-track faculty are responsible for maintaining teaching obligations, participation in student advising, service on committees in the School as well as the greater University, public relations roles, involvement in professional associations, and public service. All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a habit of scholarship, which requires dissemination to the nursing profession in various venues.Core Duties University of Portland faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the School and the University. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching, including attention to evidence-based instructional practices, and the potential for productive research in the context of a primarily undergraduate teaching institution.Graduate faculty job responsibilities include teaching in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and other programs currently under development. Tenure-track faculty typically teach nine credit hours per semester. Specific responsibilities include delivering didactic, simulation, and clinical content for students across the lifespan; developing, revising, and evaluating syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and course content aligned with CCNE and NTF standards; and facilitating in-person or virtual immersion experiences.The Director of Graduate Programs is responsible for leading and developing graduate programs, overseeing curriculum, leading student recruitment and admissions, and ensuring compliance with all accreditation standards. The Director receives a reduced teaching load and a summer stipend.All SONHI faculty teach across programs, as well as assist students in achievement of course objectives, guide student interaction in course-related work groups, grade coursework and provide feedback. SONHI faculty serve as academic advisors to SONHI students, working with assigned students to support their progress through the program of study.
