Are you living your life's work?LOCATION: Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PASCHEDULE: Full time (40 hours per week), night shifts hours from Sunday through Thursday or Monday through Friday from 11pm-7:30am, up to 4th weekend rotations, weekend call (primarily voluntary but may be assigned on a rotating basis if no volunteers).POSITION SUMMARY:The incumbent supports the Operating Room schedule by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation. The incumbent is a vital member of the Perioperative Services Team and must adhere to all Perioperative standards of practice. He/she must ensure the finished surgical instrument set is assembled appropriately for the scheduled procedure and that all instruments and supplies are dispatched to the correct location. The incumbent is accountable for the facilitation of common goals within the department, independent daily assignment duties, and for project duties as assigned within the department. He/She will also serve as a resource to the team and will be responsible for personal professional development as it relates to the department.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrumentation, linens and identifies those in need of repairsFollows established priority list, edited O.R. schedule, and telephone requests for required instruments.Navigates automated instrument tracking system softwareDemonstrates basic knowledge of the T-doc systemClearly documents as applicable, all processed material not track via electronic systemUnderstands the needs and expectations of patients, faculty, and staff of UPHS and other affiliatesHIPAA ComplianceJCAHO ComplianceKnowledgeable about all disinfectants and chemical germicidesAble to reference MSDSDemonstrates knowledge of procedures of emergencies for steam sterilization machines.Ability to assist clinicians in one or more surgical specialtiesDemonstrates knowledge of biological logins with no assistanceMakes professional use of downtimeSeeks supervision of performance when appropriateActs as a resourceOffers feedback in the spirit of helpfulness with respect for peersDemonstrates the ability to articulate and document departmental policies and findingsPromotes a work environment that attracts and retains key talentObserves and verbalizes any breaks in techniquesUtilizes policies and procedures as a resourceRoutinely attends in-service programsAdapts to schedule changes and responds professionallyTakes ownership of tasks and problems when appropriateAccepts constructive criticism appropriatelyKnows when to seek helpLearns active communication skillsLearns to accept constructive criticism appropriatelyDemonstrates flexibility in assignment changesWillingly accepts changes in assignments and/or locationREQUIRED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: HS Diploma or GEDCertification as a Central Processing Technician OR CRCST must be obtained within 18 months from date of hire.We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
